With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Willie James Burgess, 58, formerly of Lake City, SC, who passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

Life Reflection

Willie James Burgess (POP), was born on September 25, 1966 in Florence County, South Carolina, to the late James Curtis McDowell and Patricia Burgess.

Willie received his formal education in Florence County Public School System. Before migrating to Lumberton, NC, he attended Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church.

Willie (POP), was employed by Triangle Ice for 25 years. He also held various other jobs such as J&J Drywall and co-founder of Burgess & Son Landscape in Lumberton, NC.

Willie, (POP) as he was affectionately called, touched many lives. He loved to make people laugh. He also enjoyed cooking and was a huge Dallas Cowboys Fan.

Willie (POP), was preceded in death by: his father, James Curtis McDowell; his mother, Patricia Burgess; father who reared him, Kenneth McDowell; brothers, Harrison Brown and Joe Burgess, and grandparents.

Willie (POP) leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted son, Brenton Jamal Epps (Crystal) of Lake City, SC; six grandkids,  Patrice, Jahzara, Ada, Raerylnn, Maley and Sharay; mother who reared him, Nadeen McDowell; his siblings, Mary Ann Burgess Dozier, Willie Atkinson, Joseph Fullard (Gloria), Dawn Green, Robin Brayboy (James), Kisha Blanding (RaShawn), Johnathan Brown, Anthony McDowell (Aaron), James McDowell, Jr., Patricia Harris, Steven Fenton (Judy) and Johnny Burgess; aunts, Stella Ree Gardner and Mary McDowell; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other family and friends.
