TROY'S LIFE AND LEGACY

On Monday, June 19, 1961, a prince was born to the late Anna and William Peterkin. Their union was blessed with three sons, William Anthony and Troy. On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, Troy received his wings and departed this world.

Troy, affectionately known by family and close friends as, "Pop" graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in New York City, New York. From there he decided to start working instead of continuing his education. He wanted to be a help to his mother and father financially, even at the young age of seventeen.

One year later, when he turned eighteen, he met the love of his life, a teenage girl named Desiree (Boobie). With them being so young, they went to the movies, played hand ball, visited parks, flirted and visited each other frequently because they lived in the same building. As their relationship grew, and they got older, they became inseparable.

During this time, Troy started working at Midway Atlantic Transporters for a few years as a Material Handler. He moved on to work at JFK Airport. Troy loved to explore different areas of employment. He also worked at East New York Patrol and The Brooklyn Army Terminal as a Patroller and Peace Officer. In 1993, his first love had relocated to South Carolina. Troy therefore made up his mind, that he was going south once he was financially stable. Within a year in 1994, he made the move to be with the love of his life. They did everything together. Troy was a DJ for a period of time and loved playing music that gathered people. He and his wife Desiree, sponsored many events of all types and were successful with them. Troy also shared part ownership with his wife in management of Jimmies Music in Kingstree, South Carolina.

Troy held jobs at Coleman, Milliken, Drexel, Colonial Rubber, Dunline Rubber and Honda. He met some great people during his thirty years here in South Carolina. Pop was a kind, gentle soul, who would do whatever he could to help you in your time of need. He was very dedicated to achieve his purpose. He never changed his way of focus. Troy would please others before himself. A true testimony to the words, "May the work I've done speak for me." Such a kind soul, loved by many and will truly be missed.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Peterkin and a brother, Anthony Peterkin.

Troy "Pop" leaves to cherish his memories:  his wife of forty-four years, Desiree; one brother, William Peterkin of New York; four aunts, Virginia Wicks of Columbia, SC, Gwendolyn Peterkin of Albany, NY, Alice Gatling of Aurora, CO and Arlene Peterkin of Rayford, NC; one uncle, Joseph Peterkin of North Carolina; three brothers-in-law, Jimmie (Kimberly) James, Johnnie (Karen) James and Gerald (Jamena) Spann; three sisters-in-law, Ola Peterkin of New York, Jamena Spann of Kingstree, SC and Sawneerae Bradshaw of North Carolina; three aunts-in-law, Cora Wynn of Nevada, Nancy Lee (Michael) Grant of Florence, SC and Marianne "Sweetie" Woodard (Jasper) of Virginia; twenty-five nieces and nephews, Anthony (Mooch), Destiny, Ebony, Kauan (Katrina), Sharlene, Dayna, Cynthia, Sasha, Khris, Nigel, Arionna, Nicole, Shawn, Tymel, Taron, Javanna, Darlene, Trinity, Daniel, William, Robin, Ashley, Niesha, Skyler and Drea; a host of cousins and dear friends.

Rest on Troy, your legacy is cemented. Your mission is complete. Everyone you met was touched by your kindness. We love you and will miss you, but God loves you more.
