Obituary

With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Sylvia Denise McFadden, 50, of Kingstree, SC, who passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025.

Life Reflections

Sylvia Denise McFadden was born on April 29, 1975, in the City of Rochester, NY, a western upstate NY City, to parents Mary Elizabeth Johnson and Moses McFadden, and has a younger brother 4 years her junior named Garrod Trenton McFadden. Sylvia was always known to the family as Niecy. Both Mary and Moses were originally from Kingstree, South Carolina, born and raised there. Mary and Moses moved to Rochester, NY to follow her father's side of the family in the 1980's.

Family was very important to the McFadden family so every summer, the upstate NY clan that consisted of mainly Sylvia and Garrod's father's side would spend time in Kingstree for weeks at a time and their mother Mary would reunite with her family during that time.

Sylvia spent some time in college after High School but then began her career working various jobs in Rochester, NY, mainly retail, and spent some years in Atlanta Georgia. It was not until about 13 years ago that Sylvia moved to Kingstree, South Carolina and began her career at Walmart. While at Walmart, Sylvia also started working per diem at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Environmental Services. Additionally, Sylvia started college at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in public health/medical billing/ coding, embarking on adding to her career goals.

Sylvia was not married and did not have any children but lived a prosperous life illustrating her love for family and showering her love for people and her friends that she met over the years. Sylvia and Garrod's parents are deceased as well as other aunts and uncles on both sides of the family. She is survived by her very close and only brother, Garrod Trenton McFadden, Garrod's husband, Sylvia's brother-in-law, Howard; as well as an aunt named Joan and aunt Margaret, Margaret's daughter/son, Ravie and Dwayne, Ravie's son, Rashid, and second cousin, Sellecia; and other second cousins in the Kingstree area.

Sylvia will be missed by many such as her Apostle, Mary Scott-Nelson and the Miracle Temple Bible Center INC family, the Walmart Family, the McLeod family, and her best friends, Monica, Lakeshia,  Allesa, and Quinton, as well as many other dear close friends. We all love you, Niecy.
