With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Steven Chandler, 78 of Kingstree, SC, who passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Life Reflections

Steven "Jeffrey" Chandler was born on July 31, 1947, in Kingstree, South Carolina, to the late Lonnie and Bessie Chandler. Steven entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Steven accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and remained dedicated to his father's church (Elder Lonnie Chandler) which was established in the Cedar Swamp Community, Mt. Sinai Way of the Cross. His faith remained an important foundation throughout his life. After returning to Kingstree, South Carolina, he started attending United Apostolic Church regularly.

Steven received his education in Williamsburg County and graduated from St. Mark High School on May 30, 1969. Following his education, he moved to Washington, DC, and dedicated his career to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Rockville, MD.  Through hard work, commitment, and dedication, he faithfully served for 37 years as a Plant Equipment Operator before retiring in 2007.

Steven was known for his warm spirit, kind heart, and love for family. He enjoyed listening to music, watching old western, spending time outdoors, especially fishing, which was one of his favorite pastimes. Whether sharing stories, offering wisdom, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones, Steven made a lasting impression on everyone he met. His gentle nature and unwavering love for family will forever be cherished.

Steven was preceded in death by: his parents, Lonnie and Bessie Chandler; his brothers, Jonathan Chandler, Norman Chandler and Tony Chandler; his sister,  Dothrine Fulton; and sister-in-law, Fannie Louise Chandler.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: one son, De'Andre Battle (Melonise) of Germantown, Maryland; one daughter, LaVeda Cooper of South Carolina; five grandchildren, DeMond, De'Onna, Karvellas, Lamar and LaVetria; two great-grandsons, King and Duke Battle; three sisters, Jean Porter of Kingstree, South Carolina, Artice Dunmore (Apostle William) of Andrews, South Carolina and Audrey Douglas (James) of Florence, South Carolina; two brothers, Elder Joseph Chandler of Kingstree, South Carolina, and Melvin Chandler (Harnetha) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors, and all who loved him dearly.

Though Steven has departed this earthly life, his legacy of faith, love, dedication, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The family will not be receiving friends and family, but solicit your prayers.
