Mar 23, 1954 — Mar 16, 2025
Greeleyville
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Shirley York, 70, of Greeleyville, SC, who passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025.
Life Reflections
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.
Mother Shirley York was born on March 23, 1954 in Williamsburg County to the late Blease York and the late Dorothy Mae Durant York. Mother Shirley was known to her family as "Madea", entered into her final resting place on Sunday, March 16, 2025 in her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
After the death of her mother, as a young adult, she was raised by her eldest sister Margaret York, who taught her along with her siblings the way of life. Mother Shirley worked all her life as a domestic worker and a caregiver for many families in the community. Mother Shirley loved her family as well as her extended families, constantly reminding us of her love for Jesus Christ. She enjoyed sharing her testimony of how good God has been to her, with tears running down her cheeks, she would give God the highest praise "Hallelujah". Mother Shirley York was a faithful servant of God who received the gift of the Holy Ghost and water Baptism in Jesus name. She joined Bible Way Temple under the leadership of Bishop Thomas Plowden. Working timelessly in the church she developed a strong connection to her church family, whom she loves to pieces.
Mother Shirley York enjoyed watching the soap operas from 12:30pm until 2:30pm, and DO NOT DISTURB her either. She enjoyed talking to her nephew Button at 5:30am every morning along with her niece Mary and her sister Tater. She also enjoyed sitting on the porch at her home, watching the cars pass by. She enjoyed cooking for her son Quinton every Thanksgiving and Christmas, and when he called letting her know he was coming home. She loved eating at Browns, KFC, Hardees, and the Shrimper. But, most importantly to her nobody food was better than her daughter, Carolyn Reid and her sister, Tater. Mother Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Timothy York, her brother, Blease York Jr., her sister, Hattie York, and her granddaughter, Tiffany Hodge.
Those left to cherish her precious memories are: her sons, Reverend Dr. Tyrone (Vanessa) York of Greeleyville, SC and Quinton L. York of Columbia, SC; a bonus daughter, Carolyn Reid of Greeleyville, SC; her siblings, Frances (John) Hilton of Manning, SC, Azalea York, Margaret York, Cynthia York and Julia York all of Greeleyville, SC, and Thelma York of Troy, NY; her grandsons, Tyrone Timothy York and Michael Rivera, whom she loved dearly; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will begin receiving friends and family at 4 Hope Harbor Drive, Apt. 4A. Greeleyville, SC, starting Monday, March 17, 2025 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Only.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Kingstree, SC. 843-354-2292.
