Life Reflections

Many of you know me as a Cosmetologist, Flight Attendant, World Scope Traveler, and/or a Real Estate Agent. However, to my family and friends, I am Nici. My full birth name is Shaniqua Shaneice Hammet. I was born on April 24, 1991, in Florence, South Carolina, to Shirley Regina Shaw.

As a child growing up in Kingstree, SC, I attended the public schools of Williamsburg County. At an early age, I became obsessed with hair, because my mom used to braid hair. As time passed, my love for hair grew stronger. In my spare time, I began practicing on my family and friends. While attending Kingstree Senior High School, I enrolled in Cosmetology classes. I also sang on the Youth Choir, at St. Paul United Methodist Church. In 2009, I graduated from Kingstree Senior High School, receiving my High School diploma, as well as my Cosmetology license.

In 2009, I matriculated to Allen University, with a major in Criminal Justice. My dream was to become a lawyer. While at Allen University, I met a plethora of lifelong friends. Although our paths went differently, we always remained in contact with each other. After I parted ways with Allen University, I moved to Statesboro, GA, where I resided with my maternal grandfather, the late Earl Mikell. While residing in Statesboro, I attended Georgia Southern University for two years, majoring in Psychology. Wanting to perfect my barbering skills, I moved to Atlanta, GA to train under a Master Barber. My love for barbering grew immensely. I would rather cut hair than style or even braid hair.

While continuing to barber, I moved to Savannah, GA. While in Savannah, I developed a love and a need to travel and explore the world around me. I enrolled in a program, became a foreign exchange student, and traveled to China. Upon returning from China, I made the decision to become a flight attendant. My first assignment was with Air Wisconsin Airlines. Wanting to experience and travel more, I began training with American Airlines, based out of Chicago, IL. The training was intense, but I endured the test of trials and met my goal. After becoming a flight attendant for American Airlines, my life in Chicago began. Against my mother's wishes, I enrolled in classes at Avel Flight School. In August of 2025, I received a Discovery Flight Certificate. American Airlines offered me so much opportunity and access to the world. I have been to places that I never thought I could go (Rome, Ireland, Turkey, London, and Switzerland - just to name a few). I have done things that I never thought I would be able to do.

Wanting to share my love of travel with family and friends, I considered myself a World Scope Traveler. I would blog to share my experiences, as I traveled to different countries. When I was not traveling, I was still barbering part time. In November of 2025, I achieved another goal. I became a Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams ONE Chicago. I began blogging about how to become a homeowner the correct way.

Throughout my life, I could never forget the love of my loving and dear family; my loving mother, Shirley "Gina" Shaw-Crawford (Henry) of Welford, SC; my devoted brother, Boatswain's Mate Petty Officer First Class Brandon D. Shaw (Joni) of San Diego, CA; my beautiful niece, Nala Simone Shaw of Jacksonville, FL; my dedicated uncle, Elder Hayden Cheeseboro (Rhashene) of Philadelphia, PA, and a special sister-cousin, Charlena H. Mouzon (Jamie) of Kingstree, SC. I was blessed to have a number of "adopted" aunts and uncles, as well as cousins, with whom love and laughter was shared. There was never a dull moment when we were together. I cannot forget about my classmates, as well as my dedicated American Airlines family. Thank you all for unforgettable life experiences.

On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, I boarded my last flight, by answering the call of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Though I may not be there with you physically, always remember to live and enjoy all of life's experiences, because the world is yours.

Love to you all, Nici
