CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF
Ruth B. Walker
"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
"To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." — 2 Corinthians 5:8
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, our beloved Ruth B. Walker peacefully answered God's call and made her transition from this earthly life to her eternal home in heaven. While we mourn the loss of a woman so deeply loved, we find comfort in the promises of God and in the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Ruth was a woman of faith who loved God, good music, baking, dancing, shopping, and most of all spending time with her family. She grew up in Kingstree, South Carolina, where she attended Williamsburg County public schools. At an early age, she became a member of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, where she developed a strong foundation of faith.
Ruth was born to the late Carl Bradley and Louise Nesmith Bradley. She will forever be remembered for her infectious sense of humor, funny jokes, warm spirit, and the unconditional love she shared with those around her.
Ruth was united in marriage to the late Michael Allen Walker, who preceded her in death. Throughout her life, Ruth created countless memories filled with love, laughter, wisdom, and valuable life lessons. She worked for many years as a housekeeper in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where she touched the lives of many through her hard work and kind spirit.
In the later years of her life, Ruth made her home in North Carolina with her loving granddaughter Mariah, who became her caretaker, alongside Mariah's husband and Ruth's grandson-in-law, Darrell Foster. Together, they shared the ordinary moments, laughter, challenges, and memories that marked this chapter of Ruth's life. As her needs changed, Mariah and Darrell remained devoted to her daily care and support. Their home became her home, and the bond they shared during these years created memories that will forever remain a treasured part of Ruth's legacy.
Ruth's faith was the anchor of her life. She would often declare, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1). She also loved to testify about what the Lord had done for her, saying, "The Lord picked me up, turned me around, and placed my feet on solid ground." And her favorite saying of all was saying, "Anything I want my God got." Gospel music brought her joy and comfort. Songs such as "Cooling Water," "I'm Just a Nobody," and "I Won't Complain" reflected the faith that remained such an important part of her life.
