Mrs. Rosetta Staggers Major
July 24, 1949 – November 29, 2024
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Mrs. Rosetta Staggers Major, age 75, of Fort Washington, MD (formerly of the White Oak Community/Lake City, South Carolina), who departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 29, 2024, at BridgePoint Hospital National Harbor, Washington, DC.
Rosetta, the daughter of the late John and Hattie Jane Staggers, was born on Sunday, July 24, 1949, in Cades, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Gene Robert Major; her in-laws, Albert and Gertie Major; her siblings, Ivenell Staggers, Doretha Montgomery, Bessie Lee Bennett, Moses Staggers, John Staggers, and Elijah Staggers; two sisters-in-law, Evelena Brown and Mary Nell McCray; four brothers-in-law, Harry Brayboy, Samuel Montgomery, Willie Major, and her good friend, Josh Major; and several other loved ones.
Rosetta accepted Christ as her personal Savior early in life. She was a devoted and true "church girl." She fondly reminisced about her parents, whom she affectionately called "Mama and Papa," their regular trips to their family church, Goodwill Freewill Baptist Church, and the days of growing up farming. Her love for gospel music, particularly quartet singing, as well as her regular attendance at and transportation of members to and from church, was a testament to her deep faith and commitment to helping others.
She received her education in the public school system of Williamsburg County, South Carolina. After graduating, Rosetta relocated to Pompano Beach, Florida, where she joined the House of God Church in Deerfield Beach, Florida. It was there she reunited with and married the love of her life, the late Elder Gene Robert Major.
Their union was blessed with five children. Rosetta pursued a variety of occupations over the years, including retail work at Sears, Roebuck and Company; manufacturing at Bulk Spun; part-time cafeteria work at Cades Hebron Elementary; housekeeping; housewifery; entrepreneurship (selling church hats and dresses); and providing childcare for family, friends, and young women within her community striving for professional success. She also served as the Church Mother for Redeemed Outreach Ministry, offering guidance and encouragement to all.
Rosetta cherished her role as a devoted mother and doting grandmother. She had a unique ability to make those around her feel special, no matter the circumstances. Beyond her love for God and church, she enjoyed spending time with her family, always nurturing and creating cherished memories.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Eugene Boles of Jacksonville, FL; Robert (Gwen) Major of Greenville, SC; Pamela (Ivan) Pratt of Coward, SC; Mary Major and Gary Major of Fort Washington, MD; eight grandchildren, Damon, Roderick, Alyjah, Raven, Laquana, Alexis (John), Serenity, and Wisdom; six great-grandchildren, Roderick, Roman, Mi'Angel, Corey, Jiazere, and Kennedy; three sisters, Geneva Brayboy, Janie Easley, and Masine Staggers; four brothers-in-law, Herbert (Barbara) Major, Harold (Gloria) Major, Bishop Amos (Pearl) Major, and Roger Major; fifteen sisters-in-law, Barbara Major, Lizzy Barr, Ella Session, Judy Singletary, Lorraine Major, Janice (Daniel) Williams, Stella Grady, Virginia Staggers, Linda Gordon, Loretta Lathan, Gloria Major, Lula (Perry) Daniels, Mary Lee Major, Emma Lee Staggers and Marsha Taylor; a special aunt, Ivedell Staggers; special friends Alberta and Bobby Muldrow and Ethel Porcha; a host of extended family and friends.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Lake City, SC. 843-354-2292.
