Obituary

With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Rosa M. Green, 89, of Philadelphia, PA, formerly of Kingstree, SC, widow of the late James B. Green, who passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF OUR BELOVED

Rosa Margie Green was the third of eleven children born to the late Ernest "Josie" and Susana "Sugar" McKnight Pressley on October 29, 1935, in Kingstree, Williamsburg County, South Carolina. Interestingly, South Carolina recorded her birthdate as October 31st because that is when the midwife went into town to record the birth.

Margie as she was known by loved ones attended Tomlinson High School in Kingstree. After high school, Margie worked several jobs in the service industry until the birth of her first daughter, Alicia "Dell" Lewis. Shortly after, Margie met and married her husband the late James B. Green in 1955. They decided to leave the south and made Philadelphia their permanent residence. While in Philadelphia, they set up business as an independent petroleum oil deliverer and real estate owner. In 1972, Margie took correspondence courses in nursing obtaining her license as a practical nurse from Lincoln University. Because of her compassion, nurturing and empathetic nature directed her to work in the healthcare industry. In 1978, another daughter, LaToya Timekia Green was born. Margie continued caring for patients until 2002.

Shortly after arriving to Philadelphia, she joined the Met Church formerly the Metropolitan Opera House in 1968 until its closing in 1990. Margie devoted her life to Christ and served the church in many ways. She was a Sunday school teacher for young adults, usher board member, leader of the fellowship hall, women ministry and the wise one. Margie's last church home was Faith Emmanuel Baptist Church in which she joined in 2002. In the last years of life, Margie became a sister of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES).

Margie always saw the goodness in everyone. Even if a person did something that was not nice, she would make allowances for them. Margie was taught well & never forgot her teaching. She loved life family, friends, church and church family. Before becoming the eldest sibling, Margie always tried to keep the family together. She never wanted family to fuss. She always said, "be good to each other'. She was God fearing, loving, selfless, compassionate, supportive, trusting, kindhearted, giving and encouraging. Oh, and let us not forget the delightful home cooking that made you feel good and loved just as much as she felt making it.

Margie was preceded in death by: her husband, James B. Green;  stepchildren, James Green Jr. & Lillie Mae Green; siblings, Fred Haven Pressley, Ernest Lee Pressley, Lawrence Ranell Pressley, Robert Pressley and Oneal Pressley; sisters-in-law, Mary L.
