Obituary

With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Roosevelt Preston Cooper, 83, of Kingstree, SC, widower of the late Esther Cooper, who passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

Life Reflections

Our Heavenly Father, in his infinite wisdom, saw fit to call from this world of life, Roosevelt Preston Cooper, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 8:13 pm, at his residence. He was born May 22, 1941 to the late Lincoln M. Cooper and Rosa Lee Kennedy Cooper.

Roosevelt attended and graduated from Tomlinson High School. He was employed by Jarrett's Specialty Company for 20 plus years. After retirement, he began his second career as a driver for Graham's Taxi Service, where he worked until his health declined.

At an early age, Roosevelt joined Wilson Chapel Methodist Church which later merged with Hickory Grove Methodist Church and became Faith United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully until his death. As a faithful servant of God, Roosevelt served on the Church Council, United Methodist Men, PPRC, Trustee Board, and sang in the choir. Roosevelt was also a proud member of Pride of Rose Hill Lodge No. 405, where he served as Secretary, until his health declined.

On May 4, 1968, Roosevelt was joined in holy matrimony to the late Esther Lee Cooper.  To this union two daughters were born, Kaye and Keena Cooper. Before the birth of their daughters, Ruth Wilson was a blessing to the Cooper home. They were later blessed with Nathan Cooper, whom they raised as their own.

"Velt" as he was affectionately called, loved to work in the church, drive cab, complete surveys on his iPad - earning gift cards, and read the Bible.  He also loved the Carolina Panthers football team. He enjoyed watching westerns, Kung Fu, and Family Feud.

Roosevelt was preceded in death by: one sister, six brothers, one stepsister and one stepbrother.Loved ones left who will cherish his memories forever are: his loving and devoted children, Kaye L. Cooper of the home, Keena (Lenell) Brooks and Ruth Wilson Samuel both of Columbia, SC, and Nathan (Kim) Cooper of Fuquay Varina, NC; nine grandchildren, Amy Cooper, Aaron Cooper, and Trina (Quincy) Johnson all of  Kingstree, SC, Ashle' Cooper of Greenville, SC, Keelen & Joshua Brooks both of Columbia, SC, Marcus Cooper of North Carolina, Rodney Samuel of Georgia and Xavier Wilson; six great grandchildren, Jaylen & Lily Brown, Quintin & Troy Johnson, all of Kingstree, SC, Kamora Henderson of Greenville, SC and Chancellor Cooper of North Carolina; one sister, Sarah Ford of Philadelphia, PA; three stepsisters, Ella Whitfield of Salters, SC, Estell (Leon) Robinson of Swansea, SC and Phyllis Nelson of Clearwater, FL; three stepbrothers, AJ Daniels of Salters, SC, Pete (Beverly) Daniels of Deer Park, NY and Elijah (Blondell) Daniels of Westbury, NY; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
