Life Reflections

~ "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." ~

2 Timothy 4:7

Roland Nathaniel McCrea was born on October 10, 1944 in Kingstree, South Carolina to the late Calvin McCrea and Olive Scott McCrea.  On Monday morning, August 25, 2025 at McLeod Hospital in Florence, South Carolina, the Lord called out to Roland and said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one sister, Blondell Dixon and five brothers, Troy McCrea, Robert McCrea, Joseph McCrea, Franklin McCrea, and LeRoy McCrea.

Roland received his education from the public school system of Williamsburg County and was a 1962 graduate of Tomlinson High School. After high school, he followed the good steps of the Lord into carpentry.  Roland entered the Air Force in 1963 through Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He served through  Vietnam, Operation Desert Shield/Storm, and a host of other international and national posts with and without his family.  While serving,  Roland attended numerous trainings including flight school, leadership school, and the NCO Academy.  Roland received an honorable discharge after 30 years of service as a Senior Master Sergeant. At an early age he accepted Christ as his personal Savior. He became a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church. After building a new church, Roland became a member of Mr. Zion United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working in the church. He sang in the male choir, served as Chairman of the Board and on the Board of Trustees. After his military service, Roland continued working in the field of carpentry which he had started after high school. Everyone that met Roland loved him.  He was the most caring person and unselfish in his manner.

Loved ones left to cherish his memories are: his wife, Patsy McCrea of the home; two daughters from his previous marriage, Dr. Lisa Olive Kershaw (Martin) of Columbia, SC, and Natalie Ann Sullivan (JD) of Montclair, NJ; five grandchildren, Charles, Clarence, Christopher, Celena and Christian.; two great-grandchildren, Ezekiel and Amir; one sister, Dethilee Payne of Kingstree, SC; two sisters-in-law, Jannie Wees McCrea and Carla McCrea; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
