Life Reflections

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Revelations 21:4

Robert Arthur Plowden, Sr. was born on January 10, 1939 to the late Thomas Plowden Sr. and Bessie Plowden. He fell asleep on Monday, June 1, 2026.

He was educated in the public school system of Williamsburg County. At an early age he was  baptized and became a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in the Gourdine Community.

Robert was employed with various corporations in Lane, South Carolina, Jacksonville, Florida, and Brockton, Massachusetts. He was affectionally known as "Bae" to his close friends and "Big Eye" to his co-workers.

He later joined Bible Way Temple of Lane where he was ordained as Deacon. Robert served the church faithfully and will be remembered by his stirring prayers. He loved the Lord and could be found sitting in the deacon's corner on Sunday mornings. Robert also had a special affection for quartet music. If there was a local quartet program going on in town, you could find him there having a joyous time.

When Robert was not at church, he could be found riding his tractor, playing checkers or on the road driving. He was also an active jogger and was jogging as much as three miles a day well into his 70's.

He was preceded in death by: his son, Thomas Henry Coward; his daughter, Theresa Williams; and his siblings, Mose Edward Plowden, Mary Alice Fraiser, Eva Mae Dukes, and Dorothy Jean Wilson.

Those left to cherish his memories are: his children, Shirley Plowden Morris (Mikie), Robert Plowden, Jr., Rose Mary Plowden, Connie Bester, Corey Bester, Tiyeka Plowden, Anthony Brooks, Robin Plowden, Abigail Plowden, and Gabriel Plowden; his siblings, Thomas Plowden Jr.,  Jannie McClary, Jimmy Plowden, Sr, and Mattie Wilson; an aunt, Vertie Mae Rouse; a special goddaughter, Malinda Lowery, forty grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, three great, great-grandchildren; a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and sorrowing friends.

"The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace." - Psalm 29:11
