Life Reflections

September 16, 1951 - October 2, 2026

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."

-II Timothy 4:7

Curtis Alphonso Pinckney was born on September 16, 1951, to the late Reverend James Pinckney and the late Corine Pinckney in South Carolina. Raised with the values of faith, hard work and perseverance. He attended the Berkeley County public school system and completed his education at Russellville High School.

His Faith and Ministry

At a young age, Curtis was baptized at Day Dawn Baptist Church, beginning a spiritual journey that would remain an important part of his life. He was called into the ministry and faithfully served under the leadership of Pastor Joshua Prioleau at Day Dawn Baptist Church. He later moved his membership to Christ Last Call Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Samuel Prioleau, where he continued to serve the Lord until his health no longer permitted him to attend. His calling and commitment to serving the Lord were meaningful parts of his life's journey.

A Skilled Craftsman and Builder

Curtis was well-known throughout South Carolina for his exceptional skill as a brick mason. His hands were gifted to build, and he took great pride in his work. The homes and businesses he helped construct stand as a lasting testament to his talent, dedication, and commitment to his trade.

For Curtis, brick masonry was more than a profession; it was a legacy. His work helped create places where businesses could grow, families could settle, and memories could be made. The foundations he laid will continue to tell the story of a man whose labor made a lasting difference in the lives of others.

His Family and Loved Ones

Family was an important part of Curtis's life. He was formerly married to Velma Jean Bennett and was the proud father of Curtis Terrell Pinckney. His love for family extended beyond his immediate household, as he also helped raise, Joseph and DeSean (deceased), demonstrating his commitment to caring for those he loved.

During the later years of his life, Curtis resided at St. George Health Care Center. On October 2, 2026, he departed this earthly life at Roper St. Francis Hospital in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, surrounded by loved ones.

Curtis leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved son, Curtis Terrell Pinckney; one granddaughter, Kamiya Pinckney; his surviving sisters, Louisa Williams of Pineville, South Carolina, and Cynthia Pinckney of Pineville, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, the late Reverend James Pinckney and the late Corine Pinckney; his sisters, Betty Pettigrew, Shirley Cleveland, and Gonna Mae Pinckney; and his brother, James Pinckney.

A Lasting Legacy

Though Curtis has laid down his tools and completed his earthly labor, the foundations he built will remain. His legacy lives on through the homes and businesses he helped create, the family he loved, the faith he professed, and the many lives he touched throughout the Lowcountry.

His life reminds us that a lasting legacy is built not only with our hands but also through our faith, our sacrifices, and the love we share with others. Though he is no longer with us in body, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

May he rest from his labor, and may perpetual peace shine upon him. "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."- Matthew 25:21
