Life Reflections

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith"

Mr. Peter James Nesmith, also known as "Pete" was born on September 25, 1949, to the late Hughie and Cardell Nesmith in Nesmith, South Carolina. Peter entered into eternal rest on May 19, 2026 at MUSC Hospital in Florence, South Carolina at the age of 76, surrounded by family.

Peter joined Friendship United Methodist Church, Nesmith, SC at an early age. He faithfully served as a member of United Methodist Men and the Friendship Male Choir. He was a graduate of Battery Park High School Class of 1968. Pete was raised working on his family's farm. After graduating, he moved to Washington, DC, where he worked at GC Murphy's store, before relocating to New York for several years. He later returned to Nesmith and built a manufacturing career that spanned more than 30 years. Upon returning home, he began working for Dubose Company in Johnsonville, South Carolina. He later joined Hemingway Apparel in Hemingway, then spent several years with Georgeanna Apparel in Camerontown. After returning to Hemingway Apparel, Pete concluded his career at Oneita Knitting Mill in Andrews, South Carolina.

Peter was united in Holy Matrimony to Dorothy Marie Nesmith on June 20, 1977. This union was blessed with four children.

Peter was known for his warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering support for family and friends. He valued honesty, hard work, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether sharing laughter with loved ones, offering words of encouragement, or helping those in need, Peter's presence brought comfort and joy to many. He enjoyed spending time with family, growing and selling fruits and vegetables, making weekly trips during the summer to McLeod Farms in McBee, SC, to pick up fresh peaches to sell to the community, making memories with friends, and embracing life's simple blessings. Peter will be remembered for his wisdom, generosity, and the love he freely gave to others.
