Georgetown
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Norman Commander, 65, of Georgetown, SC, who passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
Life Reflections
Norman Commander was born January 24, 1959 in Georgetown County, South Carolina to the late Willie and Sadie Commander and was predeceased by siblings, Samuel, Elizabeth and John Commander. Norman grew up in Andrews, SC in the Italy Community where he was a member of Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Church and a graduate of Andrews High School.
He began his employment as a welder at Whites Welding in Andrews and later relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey where he continued and elevated his trade to that of a boilermaker.
Although he enjoyed living in the city, Norman was a country boy at heart, so later found himself back in South Carolina, where he chose to live with his sister Evelyn and brother Nathaniel in Georgetown.
Norman was highly skilled and a self-made jack of all trades. No task was too tough for him to tackle. He taught himself carpentry and could build just about anything you asked of him.
When his family called for help, he was always there; landscaping, moving things, building additions, painting and helping with everything he could.
Norman was united in marriage to Marcea Commander, and was the proud father of two daughters; Tashae Commander Russell (Troy) of Bronx, NY and Sandra Williams of Jersey City, NJ,
Norman is survived by: Marcea and two daughters; siblings, James Commander of Georgetown, SC, Evelyn C. Anderson of Georgetown, SC, Mildred (Eddie) Brown of Andrews, SC, Apostle Clarence (Antionette) Commander of Andrews, SC, Jerome (Vera) Commander of Conway, SC, Rose Commander of Texas, Nathaniel Commander of Georgetown, SC, Jacquline (Norris) Gadson of Jersey City, NJ and Regina Hayward of Jersey City, NJ; sister-in-law Patricia Commander of Andrews, SC; four grandchildren, Marcus and Keith Hayward both of Jersey City, NJ Dominique and Troy Heath Russell both of Bronx, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Andrews, SC. 843-354-2292.
