Obituary

With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Nadine McCrea Samuels, 88, of Nesmith, SC widow of the late George Samuel, who passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

Life has a single beginning but a multiplicity of endings. We do not know the day, the hour, the minute, or the way of our departure; nor do we know the mystery in the works of the master who is too knowledgeable to make a mistake with his creation.

God was walking through the garden looking at the beautiful flowers that were in full bloom and ready to be picked for a bouquet. One was ready whom we loved so dearly as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; was selected as one of the flowers to complete the array. We, the family, bow with humble submission to God; rejoicing that her life was well spent in preparing for her journey home.

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, after a lifetime of devotion to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to her family, Nadine M. Samuels passed into a deep dream of sleep.

Nadine McCrea Samuels, the daughter of the late Rev. Tommy and Mattie McCrea, was born on December 10, 1936 in Nesmith, South Carolina. She was one of fourteen children. She was educated in Williamsburg County schools. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. George "LJ" Samuels on October 2, 1954 and they were married for 24 years. They were blessed with five children; Mattie, Barbara, Michael, Edison, and Florence.

Early in life she joined Friendship United Methodist Church where she gave her life to Christ. She loved attending Sunday School and Sunday Service. She believed that we should worship the Lord Our God. She served at Friendship United Methodist Church as a member of the Chancellor Choir, Older Adult Ministry, Mission Committee, and United Methodist Women of Faith. She was a proud member of Circle #3.

Nadine was not only a cornerstone of her community but also a steadfast pillar within her family. She was devoted to the love of her life, the late George "LJ" Samuels, her family members and close family friends.

Nadine and "LJ" instilled in their children the meaning of hard work, integrity, and encouraged them to seek success through education. After the loss of her husband in 1979, Nadine remained a steadfast beacon of strength for her children and grandchildren.

Nadine's unwavering love and dedication to her family and friends was reflected in every dish she prepared, the wisdom she shared, and the warmth of her vibrant sense of humor. Her passions included working in her yard and tending to her prized Knockout Roses, her daytime "stories" and all things sports.

Many in her immediate surrounding weep today for they have lost a precious mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend.

She is preceded in death by her husband George "LJ" Samuels, eleven siblings and one grandson. She leaves to cherish her memory two brothers and one sister; Leon McCrea of Philadelphia, Burry McCrea of Kingstree, South Carolina; Inez Jenkins of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three daughters and two sons, Mattie Samuels-Crafton (Ronald) of Bensalem, Pennsylvania; Dr. Barbara S. Nesmith (Linwood) of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; Michael Samuels and Edison Samuels (Sharon) of Nesmith, South Carolina; Florence S. McAffee (Michael) of Lithonia, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Vernice Samuels McEachron of Atlanta, Georgia; Courtnay N. Robb (Patrick) of Blythewood, South Carolina; Tandeka Chatman of Greenville, South Carolina; ShaVonya S. Williams (Courtney) of Columbia, South Carolina, Serena G. Nesmith of Columbia, South Carolina, Brianna S. Samuels of Columbia, South Carolina, and Brittany S. Samuels of Columbia, South Carolina, and the late Xavier N. Samuels-Crafton of Bensalem, Pennsylvania; three step grandchildren, Marlene Catuy (Raul), Michelle McAffee, and Monica McAffee; eight great grandchildren, Kaleigh, Zaiden, Jah'zire, Aaliyah, Kaivy, Emersynn, Nevaeh, Ellison, Carter, and Jahni; one adopted daughter, Jerrica Evans of Georgetown, South Carolina, a devoted family friend, Mildred Cunningham of Nesmith, South Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will be receiving friends and family at her late residence 307 Morris Corner Road, Nesmith, SC.
