Monica Regina
Booker
Jun 30, 1969 — Apr 9, 2024
Pineville
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Monica Regina Booker, 54, of Pineville, SC, a retired employee of DSS, who passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
The Life and Legacy of Monica Booker
Monica R. Booker, the eldest of two children, was born on June 30, 1969, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Harry L. and Annie Mae Booker. From a young age, Monica's spiritual journey began with her baptism and membership at Daydawn Baptist Church, where Reverend Joshua Prioleau guided her path. She cherished her church family and dedicated herself to serving in the youth ministry, participating actively in both the Youth Crusader, the Youth Choir, the Youth Ministry-Missionary, the Gospel Chorus, and the Usher Board.
Educated in South Carolina's public schools, Monica proudly graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1987 and continued her academic pursuits at South Carolina State University, earning her degree in 1992. She also pursued coursework at Morris College through the Baptist Association.
Monica's professional life was characterized by her commitment to public service, holding roles in various institutions such as the Berkeley County Magistrate, Berkeley County Sheriff Department, SC Department of Juvenile Justice, SC Department of Probation & Parole and SC Department of Social Services until her health necessitated a change in direction.
Monica exuded a captivating beauty, her smile a beacon of warmth that could brighten even the dullest of rooms. Her affection for people knew no bounds; she approached each encounter with the openness of a lifelong friend. With an innate zest for life, Monica found joy in the simple pleasures: scouring the aisles of her beloved thrift store, affectionately known as "The Boutique", building her inspiration wall, nurturing delicate blossoms in her garden, and she enjoyed feeding the birds that visited her yard.
On January 5, 1999, Monica welcomed into the world a precious gift: her daughter, Alexis Nicole, a reflection of her own radiant smile and beautiful personality. Alexis possessed an innate ability to connect with others, much like her mother, never meeting a stranger. However, on April 10, 2022, she departed from this life, leaving behind cherished memories and a profound legacy of love.
Monica's memory lives on through her brother, Jeffery (Kimberly) Booker of Summerville, SC, whom she adored, as well as her nieces, Amber and Taylor Booker of Summerville, SC. She is also fondly remembered by her aunts, Delores of Brooklyn, NY, Veronica (David) Hayes of Upper Marlboro, MD, Eva Timmons of Gadsden, AL, and Paige (David) Burnett of Piedmont, AL, along with her uncle, Stanley (Jackie) Adkins of Gadsden, AL, her godmother, Shirley Dingle and her godchild, Brandon Ward, alongside a multitude of cherished family, friends and acquaintances who celebrate her life and mourn her passing.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of St. Stephen, SC. 843-354-2292.
