THE LIFE

Martha Louise Scott

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Psalms 23:6

A Time to Be Born

Martha Louise Scott was born on September, 20, 1928 in Trio, South Carolina to the late John T & Carrie Broughton. She was the last living legacy of the Broughton family out of eighteen siblings.

On the evening of Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Lord called his faithful servant home. She spent her last moments in the loving embrace of her son Emanuel Scott.

A Time to Educate

Martha Louise Scott attended school in the Williamsburg County School system. She later moved to Charleston, SC where she began her career as the certified head cook at Ft. Sumter. She later relocated to the Bronx, New York and worked at Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1969, she moved her family back to Trio, South Carolina and continued her membership at Greater St James Holiness Church of Apostolic Faith. She worked as a head cook at numerous restaurants in Georgetown, SC, while also catering and preparing food for families and their children in the Trio Community.

A Time to Love

Martha Louise Scott was married to Sanders Scott who proceeded her in death.

A Time to Serve

Mother Martha L. Scott accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age and was baptized at the age of 13. She was a member of Greater St James Holiness Church of Apostolic Faith, which was founded by her mother Carrie Broughton. Her mother's dying wish was for her to keep the doors of the church open and she was given the key to take ownership over the church and she did just that until she was physically unable to do so. The church doors have remained open through many generations and continues to serve the community of Trio until this day. Martha exemplified leadership, dedication, and integrity as she served faithfully in the community. She served on numerous boards in the church, including the Ushers, the Missionaries and Pastor's Aide until she relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2017.

A Time to Enjoy

Martha Louise Scott enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, raising her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She adored her siblings and she made sure that everyone knew it. Cooking for her family, the church, and the community was a passion of hers that she enjoyed immensely. Martha's friends and family traveled from near and far to have a taste "Aunt Martha's" home cooked meals. She was known for her famous chicken salad, shrimp salad and everyone loved her fried chicken.
