Life Reflections

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.

Mother Margaret Ann York was born on November 20, 1945 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina, to the late Blease and the late Dorothy Mae Durant York. Mother Margaret York was known to her family and friends in the community as "Ma" or "Granny". Mother Margaret entered into her final resting place on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at Roper St. Francis-Berkeley surrounded by her loved ones.

After the death of her mother, as a young adult being the eldest child, Margaret raised and cared for her siblings until they were all grown adults. Mother Margaret worked her entire life as a caregiver for many families in the community. By the grace of God she was able to retire from the Williamsburg County School District as a Cook.

Mother Margaret York loved her family as well as her extended families, constantly reminding us of her love for Jesus Christ. She enjoyed sharing her testimony of how good God has been to her; with tears running down her cheeks, she would give God her highest praise "Hallelujah".

Mother Margaret York was a faithful servant of God she was baptized and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, working timelessly in the church. She developed a strong connection to her church family and loved them to pieces.

Mother Margaret York was a faithful and dedicated member of the Gospel Choir, she was Missionary, A Stewardess, Chairperson to the Kitchen Committee and she served on the Pastor Aide Committee.

Mother Margaret York enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed traveling with the school and watching her grands play football and basketball. In addition, Margaret loved to stir a pot and cooking was one of her favorite things to do. She loved cooking for her family, the community, the school, but most of all, her nephew, Rev. Dr. York, making his potato salad and fried chicken.

Mother Margaret York, after obeying the voice of Jesus Christ, she joined St. John 4-B Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her nephew, Rev. Dr. Tyrone York Sr., where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. Margaret served on the gospel choir, as a Missionary, a Trustee, as well as an Usher. Margaret was placed in a nursing facility but she kept the faith and attended worship service on a regular basis.

Mother Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Blease and Dorothy Mae Durant York; one son, Joseph York; two sisters, Hattie York and Shirley York; and one brother, Blease York, Jr.

Mother Margaret leaves to cherish her precious and lasting memories: one daughter, Mary (Theron) Footman; one bonus son, Gwayne York; five sisters, Thelma York(Troy) of NY, Azalea York, Cynthia York and Julia York all of Greeleyville, SC, and Frances (John) Hilton of Manning, SC; three grandchildren that she reared as her own, Joshua York, Alexius York, Travin York, whom she loved dearly; three great-grandchildren, Zaniya York, Zatarin York, and Za'Marley York; two great, great-grandchildren, Omariea York and Noah York, whom she cherished dearly; three special friends, Lueretha Montgomery, Mary Little, and Acie Childers; along with a hosts of other relatives and friends.
