Obituary

With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Margaret Louise Scott, 93, of Kingstree, SC who passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026.

Life Reflections

Margaret Louise Cooper Scott was born on January 8, 1933, to the late James & Anna Cooper in Kingstree, South Carolina. She was united into Holy Matrimony to the late Julian Lee Scott for 52 years. Margaret was the mother of the late Cassandra Louise Dean of New Haven, Connecticut. She entered eternal rest on Monday, May 18, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

Margaret was truly a testimony. She used to be an Eastern Star until God delivered, saved and filled her with the gift of the holy ghost with the help of the saints of Mount Zion Pentecostal Church, New Haven, CT under the leadership of the late Bishop Eugene Ross. She served faithfully on the Mother's Board and served as director of the children's choir. In the 1970's she worked at the Winchester Repeating Firearms Company and The Pratt & Whitney Aircraft company for many years. She also owned a Daycare in New Haven, from the 1980's – 2000's. She volunteered at the Saint Martin's De Porres School in New Haven, CT as a teacher's assistant and was the caretaker to many children in the city. She was a mother to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and willing to help anyone in need as well as an activist for substance abuse. She loved to cook, feed the hungry, make candy apples, sponsor Tupperware & Avon parties and opened her home to those who needed a place to stay. She was also known as the "icy lady" selling frozen ices and candy to the people in the neighborhood. She continued the work in Kingstree, SC as a grandmother's assistant in the grandmother's program at the Primary Anderson School where she impacted many lives.  She also helped with talent shows. By doing this, it allowed the door to open for her grandson Tyshaun to become interested in writing poems. She also helped impact the culture of the school and became a massive pillar of the community. People would travel from different schools just to see her bubbly and charismatic personality which allowed her to receive several awards from the school.

Margaret had a loving heart and loved unconditionally. She loved to help anyone and give wisdom to those who would listen. Often you would find her sitting in a chair reading her bible, praying and drinking an ice-cold cup of soda.  Two of her favorite songs were "Without God I would Be Nothing" and "Give Me My Flowers While I Can Smell Them." Her spiritual knowledge and wisdom lead her to Trinity Believers Holiness Church in Kingstree, SC under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Lynwood Cooper and Pastor James McFadden. She served in the office of Mother for many years and helped assist her grandson Tyshaun with the Sunbeam choir. In 2022, she was diagnosed with dementia, a syndrome often associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and characterized by a general decline in cognitive processes that affects the ability to perform everyday activities. In November of 2023, she moved to Columbia, SC with Ty and Brandi, who not only took care of her physically but mentally and spiritually helped her fight this fight. Through prayer and faith in the Lord (the big 3) remained strong and faithful until she took her last breath.

Margaret was preceded in death by: her husband, Julian Lee Scott; daughter, Cassandra Louise Dean; her parents, Anna and James Cooper; brothers, Bubba Cooper, Willie Cooper, James Cooper Jr., Samuel Frank Cooper and sister, Lena Mae Cooper.

Margaret leaves to cherish her loving memory: her daughter, Brandi Shaw; grandchildren, Lorenzo Barnes-Shaw, Tyrone Shaw (Natasha), Terrace Dean (Tiffany), Ronnie Allen Dean (Adrien) and Brandi Shaw; great grandchildren, Tyshaun McCray, Terrace Dean Jr., Nautica Barnes, Ken Barnes, Troynaisia Shaw, Tyana Shaw, Shanell Brown, Cassandra Dean, Jessica Dean, Ronnie Rasheem Dean, Ashley Dean, Maleek Dean, Arron Tisdale, Ashley Tisdale, George Tisdale, Lakeisha Massenburg and Latrice Massenburg; twenty-eight great-great grandchildren; three great-great-great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
