Lake City
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Maggie Ann Green, 56, the wife of Matthew Green, of Lake City, SC, who passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025.
Reflections of Life
On a warm summer morning in Florence County, South Carolina on August 18, 1969, the late Mr. Joe Louis and Mrs. Evelina Barron were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Maggie Ann, whom they loved dearly. She was their special gift and was named after her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Maggie Barron. Over the years, she became affectionately known to family and friends as "Maggie D."
Maggie grew up in Lake City, South Carolina, where she attended Florence County public schools alongside her siblings and cousins. In school, she was a quiet, observant learner with an easygoing and fun-loving personality that drew others to her.
After completing her education, Maggie entered the workforce, holding several jobs as she provided for and cared for her beloved daughters, Cee Cee and Nette. Though she was soft-spoken, Maggie was always attentive, dependable, and fully engaged in everything she did. Her work ethic was unmatched. Most of her career was spent in the hospitality and service industry, working with organizations such as Ocean Dunes and Holiday Inn, and later dedicating over 15 years as a Team Leader at Hampton Inn in Florence, SC.
Nearly twenty-one years ago, Maggie met and married the love of her life, Mr. Matthew "Kenny" Green, her "one and only." Together, "Kenny G" and "Maggie D" shared a loving and faithful marriage and were approaching their 21st wedding anniversary this December. Kenny became a devoted bonus father to her daughters, and together they built a beautiful family, becoming proud grandparents to Frank Jr., Devonte, Amya, and Dante.
Maggie came from a long line of strong, faithful, and independent women, including her mother and grandmother. Introduced to God and the church at a young age, she grew in her faith and developed a deep spiritual foundation. She loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of St. Stephens Baptist Church in Cades, SC, where she joyfully served God's people in many capacities. Her life was a model of Christian love—expressed through service to her church, family, friends, and community. In October of this year, Maggie and her husband Kenny were ordained as Deacon and Deaconess, a true testament to their faith, devotion, and commitment to God's work.
Maggie loved life and lived it fully, on her own terms. She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, and doting grandmother. Like her mother before her, she had a calm, sweet, and gentle spirit—but could be fiery and strong when needed. She loved her family dearly and cherished their time together, especially during the Annual Family Gathering, where her laughter and warm presence filled the air. Maggie was the family's Master Chef on the grill and proudly made the second-best dirty rice—just after her mother, Evelina. She was a devoted caregiver to her sister Rose Marie, her late Aunt Cree, and her Aunt Bonnie. Above all, Maggie's greatest joy in life was being "Mom" to Cee Cee and Nette, and sharing her life with her beloved husband, Kenny G. Her love, kindness, and quiet strength will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Mr. Joe Louis Barron and Mrs. Evelina S. Barron; her three brothers, Kaybruce Barron, Joe David Barron and Tyrone Barron; aunts, Patricia Green, Creola Adams, Lottie Miller and Pauline Williams; uncles, Darren White and Ronnie Singletary.
