Lorraine
Alston
Sep 8, 1963 — Aug 6, 2025
Gresham
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Lorraine Alston, 61, of Gresham, SC, who passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Obituary
The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters, He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil, My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. 23 Psalms
Life Reflection
Lorraine Alston, the daughter of the late Eugene Alston, Sr. and Betty Cunningham Alston, was born on September 8th, 1963 in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. On Wednesday, August 6th 2025, she departed this earthly life and made the transition to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by two siblings: a brother, Eugene Alston, Jr. (Merilyn Alston), and a sister, Shirley Elaine Pringle (survived by husband David).
Lorraine was educated in the Williamsburg County School System and was a graduate of Battery Park High School. She was employed as a CNA for many years until her health began to decline.
Later in life, Lorraine found and accepted Christ. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Hemingway, SC for many years until the time of her death. Her faith wasn't just spoken—it was lived, day by day, in the way she loved, served, and encouraged others.
Above all else, she cherished her family. Lorraine was a devoted spouse, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a constant source of strength and laughter. She loved to laugh, loved to make others laugh, and knew how to find joy even in life's toughest moments.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her spouse of many years, Leroy Hampton of the home; one daughter, Leroysha Hampton of Gresham, SC; four grandchildren, Jahmier Hampton, Antoinnette Graham, Damarion Hampton and Diamond Lewis; two great-grandchildren, Kameron Palmer and Dream Graham.
Lorraine is survived by: three siblings, Lucinda Holmes of Nesmith, SC, Derick Alston of Kingstree, SC and Carlos (Sherri) Alston of Lancaster, SC.
She is also survived by: uncles, Salters (Rebecca) Alston of Orlando, FL, Rev. Albert (Pat) Cunningham of Rahway, NJ, Jerome Cunningham of Conway, SC and Gene Cunningham of Asheville, NC; aunts, Janie Mae Cooper of Rochester, NY, Mary Jane Wilson of Kingstree, SC, Deloris (Charles) Riggins of Kingstree, SC, Ella Alston of Kingstree, SC, Mary (James) Rembert of McDonough, GA and Mattie McKnight of Kingstree, SC; three great aunts, Rosanna Nesmith of Nesmith, SC, Clara Miller of Phoenix City, AL and Rose Morris of Rochester, NY. She also leaves behind sisters and brothers-in-law, Emma Williams, Clara Duncan, Clara Sheard (Jan), Vertell Frierson, Gerturd Nesmith, Alberta Timmons, Christine Robinson (Vernon), Sally Thompkins, Catherine Graham (David), Central Thompkins (Lethel), Willie Thompkins and Alexander Hampton; a best friend (who was more like a sister), Mary Willis; along with a host of special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lorraine's legacy is one of love, laughter, and strength—and it will live on through the many lives she touched.
