Celebrating the Life of Leon Singletary

Leon Singletary was born on November 10, 1960, in Kingstree, South Carolina, to the late Hoover and Rhodia Singletary.

Leon received his early education in Williamsburg County and graduated from St. Mark High School. Following graduation, he continued his education at Williamsburg Technical College, where he earned a certificate in welding.

At an early age, Leon joined St. Paul Methodist Church, where the foundation of his faith was established. During this season of his life, he was also a member of a small gospel group. Leon had a deep love for music and enjoyed singing, playing the keyboard, and playing the guitar.

As the years passed, Leon found the love of his life, Pearlie Mae Rouse Singletary. On June 15, 1985, the two were united in marriage and began building a life and family together. Leon later joined Great Present AME Church, where he continued sharing his love for music as a member of the Male Choir for a few years.

From their union came three beloved children: two sons, Teon Singletary of Surfside Beach, South Carolina (Tigist), and Keon Singletary of Summerville, South Carolina (Bionca); and one daughter, Shatara Singletary-Freeman of Ladson, South Carolina (Christopher).

Leon was a hardworking man who understood the importance of providing for his family. Throughout his life, he held a variety of jobs and was never afraid of an honest day's work. His journey took him from cropping tobacco in the fields to working at McDonald's, Wellman Industries, Colonial Rubber, and Andrews Wire, among others.

As his family grew, Leon recognized the need to create greater financial stability for those he loved. Determined to make a change, he embarked on a new career path and pursued truck driving. He attended and graduated from NEI Truck Driver Training, Inc., preparing himself for a new chapter in his working life.

Leon began driving for Werner Enterprise Inc., where he worked for approximately seven months. Although the career provided an opportunity to support his family, being away from them for days at a time was not the life he desired. Family meant too much to him.

In 2018, Leon landed a job with Ard Timber Company in Andrews, South Carolina. There, he found an opportunity that allowed him to continue providing for his family while remaining closer to the people who mattered most. Leon faithfully worked with Ard Timber Company for 18 years, demonstrating the dedication, consistency, and strong work ethic that characterized his life.

Leon's life was about much more than work. He believed in laughter and knew how to bring it wherever he went. Leon was often the life of the party, always ready with a joke, a funny story, or a straightforward comment that only he could deliver. You never had to wonder what Leon was thinking, he would tell you! His honesty, humor, and straightforwardness were simply part of who he was, and those who knew him understood that it came from a genuine place.

Leon had a special way of making people laugh and turning an ordinary moment into a memorable one. Whether surrounded by family, friends, coworkers, or church members, his personality could fill the room. The laughter he created and the stories he told will remain treasured memories for those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Leon continued working and providing for his family until his unexpected passing on September 11, 2026.

His life was one marked by faith, family, music, hard work, honesty, and laughter. From the fields of South Carolina to the highways he traveled, from the songs he sang to the jokes he told, and from the work of his hands to the family he loved, Leon leaves behind a story that will continue to live through the lives of those who knew and loved him.

Though his voice may now be silent, the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and especially the laughter he created will echo in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.
