Life Reflections

I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.  II Timothy 4:7

We have come today to honor the life of Lee Edward Burgess, Jr., son of Bernice Burgess and the late Lee Edward Burgess, Sr. He was born in Florence County on November 27, 1965. He was preceded in death by a brother: Eugene "Dean" Burgess; maternal grandfather and grandmother: Cooper Junior Graham and Betty Graham; and paternal grandfather and grandmother, Jack Burgess, Sr., and Lizzie Brayboy Burgess.

Lee Edward attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated in 1984 from Lake City High School in Lake City, South Carolina. In his youth into adulthood, he attended Mount Moriah Baptist Church. He was also a long-time and dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge, Will Do #322, where he was respected for his brotherhood, loyalty, and service.

Upon graduating high school, he went into the workforce where he was faithfully employed by Nan Ya Plastics for over twenty years until his health failed.

"Chubby" as he was affectionately called by his family and friends was a devoted and selfless man, deeply committed to his family and loved ones. A true family man-someone you could call on at any time-ready to help, listen, or simply be there. As a father and friend, he offered wisdom and understanding. He built enduring relationships and meaningful friendships where he left a lasting impression through his kindness, loyalty, and genuine care for others.

Known for his sense of humor, Lee Edward had a special gift for making others laugh, especially during difficult times. His warmth, strength, and presence brought comfort and joy to those around him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

On Wednesday morning, December 10, 2025, God Almighty placed his loving arms around Lee and said, "Son, it's time to come Home" at MUSC Florence Medical Center, in Florence, South Carolina.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife, Joyce Ann Burgess of the home; his loving mother, Bernice Burgess of Lake City, SC; two caring daughters, Shekeda (Jordy) Legette of Florence, SC and Camara Prince of Kennesaw, GA; four children he affectionately raised as his own, Jason Prince of Tampa, FL, Sheniqua Prince of Bronx, NY, Sedrick Prince of Charlotte, NC, and Hakeen Prince of Columbia, SC; three brothers, Dexter (Cherrie) Burgess of Lake City, SC, Gregory (Sandra) Burgess of Florence, SC and Kevin Burgess of Lake City, SC; three sisters, Virginia (Jerome) of Georgetown, SC, Evon Burgess and Deondra Burgess both of Lake City, SC; six grandchildren, Jardon Legette, Kamron Prince, Jeremiah Prince, Esmae Prince, Kailey Prince and Carson Prince; seven aunts; two uncles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

The family is receiving friends and family at his late residence, 336 Airport  Circle, Lake City, SC.

All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Lake City, SC. 843-354-2292.
