St. Stephen

Life Reflections
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
-Matthew 5:8
Laverta Broughton, a gentle soul whose quiet presence brought peace to all who knew her, entered eternal rest on March 27, 2026. Born on April 16, 1946, in St. Stephen, South Carolina, Laverta lived a life shaped by unconditional love, steadfast care, and the comforting embrace of family.
Lovingly raised by her devoted parents, Mr. Charlie "Big Brother" Broughton and Mrs. Vivian Gaillard Broughton, Laverta was surrounded by a home filled with patience, protection, and unwavering commitment.
As a person with special needs, she was nurtured with extraordinary tenderness, and in return, she blessed her family with a calming grace that softened every room she entered. Her peaceful spirit taught those around her the true meaning of compassion, gentleness, and the beauty of simply being present.
Laverta found joy in life's quiet moments—sitting among loved ones, observing the world with her steady gaze, and offering a serenity that needed no words. Her life was a reminder that impact is not measured by accomplishments, but by the love we inspire and the peace we leave behind.
Her care continued through the faithful support of her siblings, John C. (Roberta) Broughton and Pathenia B. Barnes, who ensured she remained surrounded by comfort, familiarity, and affection throughout her life. Their devotion reflected the same deep love modeled by their parents.
Laverta now rests in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved mother and father. She leaves to cherish her memory her siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family, and all who were touched by her gentle light.
Though she spoke few words, Laverta's life spoke volumes—of love received, love returned, and a spirit that will forever remain pure and cherished.
"Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord."
– Matthew 25:23
