Andrews
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Laroy Hurell, 45, of Andrews, SC, who passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2024.
Life Reflections
LaRoy Hurell, affectionately known as "Bobey" and sometimes "Bubba" was born November 9, 1978, in Georgetown County, South Carolina, to his parents, Sylvia Hurell and Mack Roy Verner. LaRoy grew up in Andrews, South Carolina, in the Italy Community where he was a member of Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Church and a graduate of Andrews High School (AHS).
He was a member of the AHS football team sporting the number 74 black and gold jersey holding the position of guard and nose guard. He was tall and built in statue and held his position very well. He was a tough and faithful AHS Yellow Jacket.
After High School, LaRoy attended Benedict College. He was an avid San Francisco Football Fan.
LaRoy was a loving, kindhearted, giving gentle giant and lovable teddy bear, with a beautiful and contagious smile. He enjoyed attending picnics, family gatherings and barbecues, especially the ribs.
In his early 20's, he was asked to rear a newborn baby girl, Diamond Dreher. Many young men his age would not have taken on such a huge responsibility, but Bobey said "yes" and reared her as his own. He taught her how to be a young lady, and life skills such as education, finance and self-sufficiency. Diamond is now a young adult, attending college and working to follow her dreams as he taught her.
Bobey was loved by everyone who know him, he was everyone's son, everyone's brother, everyone's friend and everyone's protector. He was truly a one-of-a-kind hug-able and loving man.
LaRoy was employed as a food service worker at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC and attended church at Truth Church and Ministries in Columbia, SC.
LaRoy is survived by: his mother, Sylvia Hurell of Andrews, SC; father, Mack Roy (Lucy) Verner of Hemingway, SC; baby girl, Diamond Dreher of Columbia, SC; fiance', Tonya Marcia Harris of Columbia, SC; brothers, Gerold (Tammi) Linnen of Myrtle Beach, SC, Daron Verner and Mack Roy (Dyleshia) Verner III both of Hemingway, SC; aunts, Maxine Verner and Joyce Verner both of Hemingway, SC, Patricia Jackson of Rochester, NY and Bessie (Thomas) Brown of Andrews, SC; uncles, John (Brenda) Verner and Michael (Rosa) Verner both of Hemingway, SC and Joe Cephus Hurell of Andrews, SC; one nephew, Tayshaun Verner of Hemingway, SC; and a host of cousins, family and special friends.
The family is receiving friends and family at 68 Howell Road, Andrews, SC.
