Life Reflections

Laquetta Joye Mitchell, 72, of St. Stephen, South Carolina, entered eternal paradise on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Roper St. Francis Monck Corner Medical Plaza, Moncks Corner, South Carolina.

Laquetta was the daughter of MSGT. (Ret.) Oliver Sims, Jr. and Kathryn Charlene Twiggs-Sims of Sacramento, CA, was born August 28, 1952 in Fort Sill, Lawton, OK. She was preceded in death by: her beloved daughter, Christina Golden and grandson, Patrick O. Blackwell.

Laquetta affectionately known as "Pee-Wee" was a graduate of Ben Eielson High School, Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. After graduating, Laquetta pursued a career in nursing at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. While working on her degree, she met the love of her life, Donald M. Mitchell, Sr. and they were married on August 14, 1972.

After traveling for several years due to Donald's military career, Laquetta and Donald made a home in St. Stephen, SC. Laquetta worked at C.R. Bard, a medical products manufacturer in Moncks Corner, SC. She then changed career paths to begin working at Scotchman's Convenience Store in St. Stephen, SC until she retired.

Laquetta loved her family dearly. She loved coffee and most of all, reality tv shows, like Survivor and Big Brother. She would spend her days with her twin sister, Jaquetta, talking and laughing for hours on end. Laquetta had a fiery spirit and did not mind telling it like it is if you crossed her. She was also jokingly called "Neighborhood Watch" or "Live 5 News" because even though she did not leave the house often, she could tell you everything that happened in the neighborhood and beyond.

Laquetta is survived by: her husband, Donald M. Mitchell, Sr. of the home; four children, Alicia (Mark) McKnight of Sacramento, CA, Donald (Sharon) Mitchell of St. Stephen, SC, Tomika (Charles) Robinson of Orange Park, FL and Kimberly (Lamont) Gilliard of Ridgeville, SC; one son-in-law, Jamal Golden of St. Stephen, SC; two sisters, Jaquetta (James) Banks of Sacramento, CA and Rachel Sims of Oakland, CA; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends and family at her late residence, 128 Union Lane, St. Stephen, SC.
