Life Reflections
Kenneth Dwight Roberts, a devoted father, grandfather, musician, educator, and lifelong learner, passed away on December 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by love, service, fellowship, and an unwavering passion for music and education.
Born on May 14, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to Woodrow Wilson Roberts and Mary Freeman Roberts, Kenneth began life with a spirit of determination and curiosity. Immediately after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country and setting the foundation for a lifetime of discipline, service, and purpose.
While stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, Kenneth met the love of his life, Sandra Elaine King Roberts. With her encouragement and steadfast support, he pursued higher education through the GI Bill and earned a degree in Music from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. His thirst for knowledge never waned; he later earned a Master of Music Composition and a Law Degree from Georgia State University, embodying a true passion for learning.
Kenneth devoted much of his life to nurturing the next generation. He retired from both Atlanta Public Schools and Riverside Preparatory Academy, where he inspired countless students with his love of music, his dedication to excellence, and his generous mentorship. Outside the classroom, he remained deeply involved in the arts as an active member of the Atlanta Federation of Musicians and as a proud musician in the 530th Air Force Band at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, Georgia.
In addition to his musical and educational pursuits, Kenneth was a lifelong member of the Prince Hall Masonic Grand Lodge, Atlanta, Georgia, where he built lasting bonds of brotherhood and lived out the Masonic values of integrity, service, and community uplift.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra King Roberts; his brother, Woodrow Roberts; and his sister, Nina Augustus.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his sons, Kenneth Lawrence (Sophia) and Keith Dwight; his four grandchildren, Kenneth Massie, Kyra Kennedy, Kerrington Kendel and Kinsley Nicole, whom he loved and supported with unwavering devotion; his beloved mother, Ida D. King of Wilmington, North Carolina; his brother-in-law, Carl R. Augustus, Sr. of St. Stephen, South Carolina; his cherished nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family, friends, colleagues, and former students whose lives he touched deeply.
Kenneth Dwight Roberts will be remembered for his insatiable curiosity, his profound devotion to music, his commitment to service, and the deep, abiding love he had for his family. His life was a testament to perseverance, purpose, and the belief that learning and creativity enrich not only oneself, but the world.
May his memory forever inspire, and may his song continue in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
