REFLECTIONS OF A FAITHFUL SERVANT…
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing".
(2nd Timothy 4:7-8)
Kathleen Montgomery, affectionately known as "Ms. Kat", daughter of the late James "Busby" Montgomery and Pauline McKenzie Montgomery, was born October 30, 1935 in New Zion, South Carolina. In God's amazing splendor, He chose our dear Kathleen from her labor to rest on Friday, January 24, 2025 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, South Carolina.
She received her former education in the public schools of Clarendon County. Kathleen was an amazing seamstress and made most of her clothes for herself, her family, and for others in the community. She worked for over twenty years at ABC Manufacturer, then later worked at Turbeville Manufacturer.
At an early age, Kathleen began her spiritual journey and joined Howard Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church where she worked relentlessly in the church until her health began to fail and she was no longer mobile. She was a current member of the Lou Bertha Missionary Society, Church School and a past member of the following: Steward Board, President of the Stewardess Board, Usher Board, Church Secretary, "Woman of the Year", and Chantler's Choir. She especially loved gospel music and quartet programs. Kathleen Montgomery attended any event/occasion held at the church. She was one of God's gentle yet firm women whose faith in God never wavered. Kathleen knew that God was with her through it all. She was a true "Soldier" in God's army!
Kathleen enjoyed her family, especially her great grandchildren. She also loved to cook, bake cakes and pies, and make potato salad that made you ask for more. She loved all her family dearly and did everything in her power to promote peace and harmony.
Her parents, James "Busby" Montgomery and Pauline McKenzie Montgomery as well as two brothers, David "Dee" Montgomery and Isaiah "Jimmy" Montgomery; two sons, James Lee Montgomery and Kenneth "Kenny" Montgomery preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memories; a loving son, Jerome (Ericka) Montgomery of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a devoted daughter, Schanell E. Montgomery (Charles) of Florence, South Carolina; a grandson that she reared as her own, Derod "Rod" Fleming; six additional grandchildren, Latasha Montgomery of Jacksonville, Florida, Denim Montgomery, Dakota Montgomery, Brandi Manuel, Jordan Brown all of Florida and Chrisha Simon of Columbia, South Carolina; thirteen great-grandchildren including, Ny'Guel R. Fleming, Nathaniel "Nate" Fleming, Latonya "Tee Tee" Mason, Nasir "Nas" Fleming, and Ja'Kiya Cummings, who were in direct contact with her on a regular basis; one sister-in-law, Essie M. Montgomery of New Zion, South Carolina; a loving grandniece that traveled with her on vacations as a little girl, Nicole "Muffy" Montgomery; a special little cousin that she loved to hear sing, Ashley Makell; a "bonus" daughter, Janice L. Williams; a "bonus" son, Lionell Cribb; special devoted friends/family that she took as her "sisters", Laura Mae McFadden, Mattie Evans, Mary Jane Howard, Lois Evans and Pastor Mary Magilene Adams; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends that she loved dearly. Special recognition and thanks to Trusted Vessels In-Home Healthcare, LLC and the staff of Honorage Nursing Center.
The family is receiving friends and family at her late residence at 3416 Fillmore Ct., Florence, SC.
