Obituary

With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Joseph McGee, 45, of Kingstree, SC, who passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

IN LOVING MEMORY

Joseph DeCourtney McGee, Jr. was born on July 14, 1979 to the parents of Gladys Mae McGee and the late Joseph Lee McGee in Kingstree, South Carolina. He was the baby amongst five children. He leaves behind three sisters, Van L. McGee, Latomalyn McGee and Lakeshia McGee; one brother, DeShannon McGee; his nieces, Kita McGee, Jada McGee, Gabby McGee; nephew, Stephon Caldwell; his great nephew, Isiah McGee and great niece, Aryria Caldwell. Joseph loved his uncles, aunts and many cousins as well.

Joseph grew up in Kingstree South Carolina and later moved to Columbia, SC to attend Wil Lou Gray Academy and graduated with a Barbering License. After obtaining his Barbering License, he was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Destyni McGee. She was his heart and he wanted nothing but the best for his angel. She will always be Daddy's Girl.

His father later blessed him with his own Barbershop in the heart of Columbia SC. He was dedicated and truly enjoyed the fruits of his labor. Joseph loved his clients.  He became more than a barber to them. Joseph was their friend and counselor. He had a way of making them all feel special with his realness and laughter that could be heard throughout the shop. It was a unique laugh.

Outside of work, Joseph enjoyed spending time with his daughter, family and friends. Joseph was a special soul. He loved God and valued his relationship with him. Everyone he met gravitated to him. He became one of the most well-known Barbers in the area. Joseph was a leader not a follower. Many people wanted to be in his circle because he had a great heart and wisdom. His presence on this earth will be greatly missed.  God lent him to us for 45 years and decided to pick him up December 31, 2024.  So many broken hearts and tears were shed when you left. But we all know, God chooses his best.  Bye for now, Joseph DeCourtney McGee, you were that original Old G.
