Life Reflections
Mr. Johnny Boyd Jr.
Mostly Known as Marion Johnson
Johnny Boyd Jr. was born on November 27, 1953, to the late Johnny Boyd Sr. and Lula N Rivers, but he was reared by Mr. John H. and Rosa Lee Johnson, and was given the name Marion Johnson. He was also nurtured by Mr. Peter and Virgina "Missy" Gilliard. Being the first baby to the Johnsons, the Gilliard Town families where they lived started calling him "Baby One". Johnny entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at MUSC Health Orangeburg in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
While growing up in the 311 area of the Cross community, he attended and became a member of Ebenezer Zion A.M.E. Church, where he served as a young Sunday School teacher to the Catechism class. He was educated at Popular Hill Elementary and Cross High School and graduated with the Class of 1972. Once out of high school, he relocated to Lake Placid, NY where he then trained as a cook and then later became a chef, managed by Head Chef Bolen Clark. Johnny then moved to Newark, NJ and worked as a local truck driver. Johnny had a heart for all of his hobbies: fishing, gardening, cooking his specialties of potato salad and rutabagas with pigtails, and enjoying special times with his family and friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by: all 3 set of parents; a granddaughter, Shaquana Mack; grandparents, Eliza Brown, Derry and Sibbie Sanders; his sister, Barbara Boyd; his brothers, Carlton and Gregory Dasher, along with a nephew, Allen Johnson Jr.
Marion leaves to cherish his sweet memories: his children, Christine (Evens) Ulysse, Tasha (John) King, Harold C Parlor; his brothers and sisters, Allen (Dora) Johnson Sr., Geno Johnson, Jannie Williams, Brenda Mack, Kenneth (Keisha) Johnson, Latrisha (Bobby) Davis, Jan Dasher, Richard Dasher, Johnny Boyd Jr., Shirley B. Primus, Dennis (Sharon) Boyd and Henry (Jani) Boyd; eleven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, classmates and friends.
The family will start receiving friends and family at 639 Big John Lane, Cross, SC, 3/7/2025 - 3/8/2025 from 3:00P.M.- 9:00 P.M. only.
Funeral Services will be live streamed on Facebook by Ebenezer Zion A.M.E. Church, Holly Hill, SC.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of St. Stephens, SC. 843-354-2292.
