With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing John Willie Thompson, Jr. of Kingstree, SC, a retired employee of the Town of Kingstree and husband of Ernestine Amelia Shaw Thompson, who passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Life Reflections

JOHN WILLIE THOMPSON JR, was born March 26, 1944, and reared in Suttons, South Carolina to Mrs. Oquilla Eaddy Thompson and Mr. John Willie Thompson Sr. On May 2, 2025, our beloved Husband, Dad, Granddad and Great Granddad answered God's call to come home to him. He passed into "his state of eternal rest" at his home in Kingstree, South Carolina surrounded by his family.

At an early age, Mr. John joined Nazareth A.M.E. Church in the Suttons Community of Williamsburg County.  He attended and graduated from Blakely High School Class of 1964.

Mr. John later joined Apostolic Bible Way Church in Kingstree, SC and was a faithful member, usher, communion steward and served in other capacities when and wherever needed. He supported his church in any way he could. He was employed with the Town of Kingstree where he retired in 2002 after working many years in the Water and Street Departments.

John loved to fish, cut grass and spending time with his family.  He had his own names that he would call everyone (Missy, Lil T, Jock, Mooka, Bad Boy and Pumpkin). Our "Gentle Giant" was known to many as "Bar" or "Big John".  He loved everyone he encountered.

John was married to Mrs. Ernestine Shaw Thompson for 52 years and their union has been BLESSED with three daughters. Preceding John in death were his parents, one brother and one sister.

Loved ones who will cherish his memories always are: his wife, Mrs. Ernestine Shaw Thompson of the home, three daughters: Miss. Minnie Victoria Shaw of Kingstree, SC; Mrs. Jennifer Teresa (Eric) Graham of Alvin, Texas  and Willette Oval Thompson (Caretaker/his Big Baby) of Kingstree, SC;  five grandchildren, Miss Asha Thompson/Ahnna Gaston of Charlotte, NC; Miss. Terrianna Cameron, Mr. Terry Cameron of Kingstree, SC, Mr. Ja' Dell (Sharniece) Scott of Lubbock, Texas and Mrs. Jadasha' Everett (Jayden) of Pasadena, Texas; four great grands that he adored and loved daily: Jordyn Tisdale, Zykez Barr, Kennedi Cameron and Rianna Ortiz; two close and dear friends: Mr. Frank (Margaree) Mitchum and Mr. Heyward (Alberta) Tisdale; and  a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

The family is receiving friends and family at his late residence, 45 Quail Street, Kingstree, SC.
