Life Reflections
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens; A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot." Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 (NIV)
John Joseph Collins, III, a beloved son of the late John Joseph Collins, II and Rosa Lee Demery Collins, was born in Gable, South Carolina on December 28, 1967. On Saturday, April 4, 2026, he peacefully transitioned into the arms of his Savior and received his wings.
At a young age, John relocated with his parents from Gable, South Carolina to Spring Valley, New York, where he began building the foundation of his life.
Affectionately known as "Lil'John," he leaves behind a legacy of compassion. From an early age, John embodied the values of kindness and humility. A gifted handyman, he found joy in life's simple pleasures and in helping others.
After the passing of his beloved mother, he moved to Gable, South Carolina, where he was lovingly raised by his late paternal grandmother, Carolyn "Caroline" Collins, and his aunt, Gladys. As a child he attended Melina Presbyterian Church, where he participated in youth activities. John began his education in Spring Valley, New York. He attended Walker-Gamble Elementary School in New Zion, South Carolina, and later East Clarendon High School in Turbeville, South Carolina where he developed a passion for track and field and became an integral member of the team. He later returned to Spring Valley, New York, where he continued his education at Spring Valley High School.
As an adult, Lil' John returned to South Carolina, where he continued working as a handyman and providing lawn care services until his health declined.
He leaves to cherish his memory: two loving daughters, Shanel Wilson and Patrice Wilson; three granddaughters; three grandsons; sisters, Patricia A. Collins and Necole C. Collins (James); three brothers, Daryl J. Collins, James D. Collins and Stacy Nelson (Bridgette); a devoted friend, Mary Lee Gamble and her daughter, Shontell Gamble; six aunts, Gladys C. Cooper, Ann B. Wheeler, Margaret Rose, Rosa Mae Demery, Agnes Draford and Patricia Kindred; one uncle, Nathaniel Rose; nine nieces; four nephews; one great niece; one great nephew; countless of family and friends. All who knew him shared in the joy he brought into their lives, and he will be deeply missed.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Kingstree, SC. 843-354-2292.
