Life Reflections

"There is an open gate at the end of the road through which each must go alone and there in light we cannot see, Our Father claims His own. Beyond the gate, your loved one find, happiness and rest, and there is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best. "

James Evans, Jr., was born in Williamsburg County, South Carolina on January 3, 1951 to the late James Evans and Florine Adams Evans. He departed his earthly life on January 28, 2026 at MUSC– Florence Medical Center, in Florence, South Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Evans.

James was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was the eldest son of 13 kids. As a young man, James enjoyed going out, working on cars and just having a great time. He was well-known to the community as "Bobbie" or "Bob Cat". His loud, outgoing personality was one that stood out the most. It didn't matter young or old, he just had the personality that everyone enjoyed being around.

A cherished husband, father, brother and friend, James will always be known for his boldness, loudness and outgoing personality. He was easy to talk to if you wanted the truth and gave a good laugh at the same time.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Marguree Evans of the home; two sons, Gary Evans (Sabrina), of Las Vegas, NV and Steve Evans (Angel) of York, SC; special person, Corey Staggers (Tanya) of New Jersey; four daughters, Tory Smith (Rasheem) of Kingstree, SC, Carlotta Jones (Nicholas) of Florence, SC, Jacqueline Tanhill (Lawrence) of Florida and Sharon Ferguson (Sherman) of New York; a special son/grandson, LaDarius Evans of Florence, SC; siblings, Ida Burgess (Jay), Edna James (Joe), Elizabeth Evans, Cena Mae Calvy, Diane Evans, Rickey Evans, Williard Evans, Alphus Evans, Robert Evans (Lisa), Troy Evans and Corey Evans all of Kingstree, SC, and Hugh Evans (Mary) of Turbeville, SC; one living aunt, Celestine Scott (Carl) of St. Stephen, SC; twenty-three grandchildren; six great grands; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
