Obituary

With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Ida Knowlin, 77, of Powder Springs, GA, formerly of the Sampit Community of Georgetown, SC, who passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Life Reflections

Ida Knowlin, daughter of the late Clara (Bonds) biological, Ernestine and Melvin Knowlin Sr.., was born November 30, 1946 in the St. Paul section of Georgetown, South Carolina. She was also predeceased by: her mother, Ernestine Knowlin; siblings, Monroe, Rosetta, Lila-Bell, Melvin Jr (Bud), Retha, Ruby and Mary Lou.

Ida spent the younger part of her life in South Carolina where she was raised by her father and mother (Ernestine). Ida eventually moved to Hartford, CT, where she focused on being a full time mom and devoted her life to Christ.

Ida was a member of The House Of God Gateway To Heaven Church (Hartford, CT) where she worshipped for many years. She (literally and figuratively) wore many hats. Since she had a passion for cooking and baking, it was only natural that she join their kitchen committee serving many guests during church events such as Holy Convocation. There was always a special request for her HOMEMADE baked macaroni & cheese, sweet potato pie and/or pineapple upside down cake. Her most notable position in the church, however, was her role as president of the usher board. Ida was a firm believer that cleanliness was next to Godliness and with her being in charge, she made it her business to ensure everything was done decently and in order. After many years as President of the Usher board, Ida felt a higher calling on her life and it was  then that she appointed as Deaconess Knowlin. Many years later, she fell ill and relocated to Atlanta, GA where she resided with her son, Jeffrey and daughter-in-law, Drame. It is there that she spent the remainder of her life until she gained her heavenly wings on September 24th.

Ida is survived by: her children, Vera "Vernie" Knowlin of Charlotte, NC, Michael (wife Patrice) Knowlin of Fayetteville, NC, Kenneth Knowlin of Georgetown, SC, Tammy Knowlin of Hartford, CT, Jeffrey (wife Drame) Knowlin, Jesse Knowlin, and Nakesha Knowlin all of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves behind her sister, MaryLou (Riah) Knowlin of Manchester, CT; many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren; along with a host of relatives, and a special care nursing team of sisters, Esther Ratemo and Anna Omboto, who always went over and beyond the call of duty.

Among all of the cherished memories, the family is extremely grateful to daughter-in-law/love, Drame Knowlin, who worked around the clock to ensure Ida was comfortable and well taken care of.

All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Andrews, SC. 843-354-2292.
