Henry Neal
Jr.
Mar 15, 1943 — Aug 14, 2026
Nesmith
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Henry Neal Jr., 83, husband of Annie Neal, of Nesmith, South Carolina, who passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026.
In Loving Memory of Mr. Henry Neal, Jr.
Mr. Henry Neal Jr. was born on March 10, 1943, in Byromville, Georgia, to the late Mr. Henry Neal and the late Ms. Annie Lou Barron. Henry was one of eight children. He was preceded in death by: his siblings, Willie Essie Neal, Thelma Porter, Maefannie Brown, and Mary Dean Barron. He leaves to cherish his memory: his siblings, Eunice Young of Tampa, Florida, Dorothy (Elijah) Reed of Tampa, Florida, Willie Henry (Mary) Neal of Albany, Georgia, and Bobbie Edwards-Orebo.
As a young man, Henry moved to Tampa, Florida, where he became a father to his first son, Henry Neal III. He later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he met his first wife, Rev. Carolyn Neal. Together, they built a family and were blessed with two children, Rev. Patrick Neal, who preceded him in death in August 2010, and Monique E. Neal-Sibert (Michael).
Henry was a strong, hardworking, and determined man. He was known for being strong-willed, and as his family would affectionately say, sometimes stubborn. But beneath that strength was a tender heart and a generous spirit. Henry loved his family, friends, and community deeply and showed that love through the way he cared for them. If something needed to be built, repaired, fixed, or figured out, Henry was the person to call. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back and never think twice about it.
Although Henry found success in Philadelphia through his construction work, his heart always belonged to the South and to farming. After returning to the South in the early 2000s, he devoted himself to the farm he loved so dearly. He raised hogs, chickens, guineas, cats, and cows, and he took great pride in tending to them. His cows were affectionately known as "Jersey," and anyone who knew Henry knew just how much those animals meant to him. He was also passionate about gardening and was known for growing more than enough to share. For Henry, farming was a way of life and a source of joy.
Following the passing of his first wife, Henry found love again with Annie S. Neal. Their marriage brought him companionship, love, and a beautiful second chapter of family life. Together, Henry and Annie shared many cherished years and welcomed three additional children into his life: Rodney, Mistey, and Yanike. Henry was also blessed with grandchildren from both marriages: Cameron Neal, Jade Lundy, Destiny Lundy, Jordan Dobbs, Camron Neal, Ryan Neal, Henry J Neal, Sharde Neal, Tanya Neal, and Valerie Neal, and he had 12 great-great-grands, whom he loved dearly. Camron held a special place in Henry's heart and was much more like a son than a grandson to his beloved "Pops."
Henry was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church and Circle #3 United Methodist Men.
He also held dear his godfamily, including the late Mr. & Mrs. Charles Morris, and their children: Ann McGill, Linda "Gwen" Pressley, Mary Holland, and Charles "Taddy" Morris Jr. The family extends special gratitude to Gwen and Mary for their wellness checks, phone calls, and for making sure Henry made it to his appointments, and to Taddy for always showing love and bringing his barbecue.
Heartfelt appreciation also goes out to Henry's special friends: George, Lindwood, Mozelle, Harry, Mack Burgess, Mack "Cobi" Burgess, Joe Cooper, Johnny Green, and others who stood by him to the end. Your help, kindness, friendship, and presence at the Neal Farm during this difficult time will never be forgotten. Thank you for answering the call when Henry and his family needed you most.
Henry may no longer be at the farm tending to his, working in his garden, fixing things, or telling someone exactly how he thinks it should be done, but the imprint he left on those who knew and loved him will remain forever.
Rest peacefully, Mr. Henry Neal Jr.
You were deeply loved.
You will be greatly missed.
And you will never be forgotten.
The family will receive be receiving friends and family at 128 Gabriel Place, Nesmith, SC.
