With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Hazel Nelson, 91, of Florence, SC, formerly of Salters, SC, widow of the late Charlie Nelson, who passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at her residence.

Life Reflections

Hazel was born September 19, 1932 in Salters/Williamsburg County, South Carolina to John H. Bryant and Everlina Starling Bryant. Hazel was the oldest of nine children. Hazel was the kindest person you could meet. She spoke very little words but everything she said was meaningful. She took care of everyone. She not only helped her family but she lended her helping hand and heart to the community and anyone who needed it. She was basically Superwoman. Hazel was a mother to all, a true guardian angel. She touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. We were blessed to have her in our lives for the 91 years of her life. S.I.P.

Hazel married Charlie Nelson Jr. on January 19, 1952 in Kingstree, SC and they were married for 45 years before he passed away in 1997. They had six children, Charles, Bertha, John (deceased), Johnny, Sheila (deceased), and Annette. They lived in Bronx, NY for about 32 years. She was a CNA in New York City until she retired. Hazel returned to South Carolina in 2012 with her three adopted children, Jason Marston, Leonard Marston, and Jahlynn Marston.

Hazel, our guardian angel gained her wings and entered into eternal rest on Sunday June 30, 2024.

She was preceded in death by six siblings.

She leaves behind: her children, Charles Nelson of Kingstree, SC, Bertha Nelson of Florence, SC, Johnny Nelson of Bronx, NY, Annette Palumbo (Matthew) of Beaverton, OR, Jason Marston, Leonard Marston and Jahlynn Marston of Florence, SC; two sisters, Katherine Nelson of Locast Grove, GA and Estelle Bryant of Florence, SC; one sister-in-law, Dorothy L. Williams of Kingstree, SC; one daughter-in-law, Renee Newell; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

The family is receiving friends and family at 3784 West Pointe Drive, Florence, SC.
