Life Reflections of Harry James White

Harry James White, 76, of Andrews, South Carolina, transitioned peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on April 4, 1949, in Williamsburg County. He was the son of Easter Mae White and the late Samuel White. He was preceded in death by his brother, the late Jerome "Romey" White.

Harry is a testimony of God's power to transform lives. Upon accepting the Lord, his faith in the Word of God remained steadfast as he entered into the rest of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a faithful Christian and member of Faith Assembly of Disciples in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where he served in any capacity as needed, but mainly as an usher and cook. Harry was educated in the Williamsburg County Public Schools and graduated from St. Mark High School in 1968. Following graduation, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corps.

Harry served as a Marine in combat during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and a Purple Heart. He later transitioned to the Army National Guard and served a tour in The Gulf War. He retired from the military as a Sergeant, earning a Good Conduct Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Army Reserve Achievement Medal.

Harry attended Williamsburg Technical College and worked in the steel industry before moving to Sampit Lumber where he retired as a Safety Coordinator. He also served many years as the treasurer of the Andrews Chapter of the NAACP.

He was introduced to the love of his life, Mary "Cathy" White, by his younger brother, Romey. They married on May 24, 1974, and were blessed with five children (3 boys, 2 girls). They are also raising three grandchildren as their own.

Harry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. In his spare time, you could find him on the river. He loved fishing, cooking, and watching old western movies, or sports of any kind. He was a man of few words, but his presence was always felt when around family and friends.

Fond memories of Harry will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Mary "Cathy"; Sons, Al (Leslie), Torey (Janna), and Roderick; Daughters, Nikki (Jonathan), and Janna; three grandchildren as their own: Kaylee, Seth, and Ethan. Siblings, Samuel (Mildred), Charles, Dorothy (Lewis), Benjamin (Deborah), Robert "RJ"; 16 total grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, sister in-laws, brother-in-laws, and a host of nieces, nephews, loving relatives, caring friends, and all who will miss him dearly.
