Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Harriet Moore

"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven."

— Ecclesiastes 3:1

On June 22, 1948, God, in His infinite wisdom, blessed this world with the life of Harriet Moore, born to the late James and Catherine Vice. From the beginning of her earthly journey until its completion, Harriet's life became a testimony of family, faith, perseverance, love, and enduring strength.

Harriet received her formal education in the state of New Jersey, where she spent a significant portion of her life. It was there that she worked, raised her family, established lasting relationships, and created many memories that would remain with her throughout the years.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Thomas Louis Moore, Sr. Their union was blessed with children, and from those branches came grandchildren and great-grandchildren who became a beautiful continuation of their family's legacy. Harriet loved her family, and the generations that followed her became living reminders of a life that was richly blessed.

Much of Harriet's working life was spent in New Jersey. In her later years, she made her home in South Carolina, where even in the workplace, there were those who had the privilege of being blessed by her presence, her wisdom, and the experiences she carried from a life well lived.

Harriet understood the importance of having a relationship with God and being connected to the household of faith. She was a faithful member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she remained faithful until her health began to fail.

Even when declining health prevented her from being present as she once had been, the Church remained a part of her life and her heart. Her faith reminds us that membership in the body of Christ extends beyond the walls of the sanctuary. The same God she worshiped in seasons of strength remained her God during seasons of sickness and weakness.

Harriet had traveled many roads during her seventy-eight years. She experienced life's sunshine and its rain, its joys and its sorrows, its victories and its challenges. Yet through it all, God's grace sustained her.

Then, on August 1, 2026, the God who had watched over Harriet throughout her earthly pilgrimage looked upon His child and knew that her journey on this side was complete. The burdens had been carried long enough. The battles had been fought. The road had been traveled. It was time to go on home.

Harriet exchanged time for eternity, labor for rest, and the cares of this world for the peace of God. Though her departure leaves an empty place in the hearts of those who loved her, we do not mourn as those who have no hope. We celebrate the blessing of having known her, loved her, and shared in the story of her life.

Harriet leaves a rich legacy of family to cherish her precious memory: her sons, Thomas L. Moore, Jr. (Nikki Reid), Ronald Moore (Betty Coles), Dwayne Moore, and Al Malik Moore (Tanya Moore); four sisters, Patricea Soto, Valerie Phillips, Francis Phillips, and Emma Mitchell; grandchildren she reared, Dwayne McGirt, Daquan Walston, Al Malik Moore, and Sakinah Moore; four goddaughters, India Kelly, Takiyah Vice, Sakinah Vice, and Wadiah Vice; along with a host of other beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, church family and friends.
