Obituary

Harold H. Scott
March 27, 1944 - February 27, 2025

Harold Howard Scott, affectionately known as "Scotty", passed away peacefully at home on February 27, 2025. He was born on March 27, 1944 in Kingstree, South Carolina to James and Minnie Scott. He grew up in Williamsburg County and graduated from Tomlinson High School, Kingstree, South Carolina in 1963, where he developed a love for sports, particularly football.

After high school, Harold moved to New York in search of employment. He found employment as a jewelry polisher and worked at night as a taxi cab driver. He would spend decades in the jewelry industry. His talents led him to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he trained polishers and diamond setting for a larger jewelry manufacturing company called I.B. Goodman. Eventually, he returned to New York City and opened his own business in Midtown's Diamond District. Passionate about his craft, he generously shared his knowledge, teaching others the delicate art of polishing, lapping and diamond setting. He especially enjoyed mentoring family and friends, always willing to give others a 2nd chance.

A pivotal moment in Harold's life, came when he began studying the Bible. His faith deepened, and after his baptism 08/15/1975 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, he became devoted to his ministry, shifting his focus to spiritual matters.

Additionally, Harold had many interests. He enjoyed cycling, roller-skating, barbering and even teaching others how to drive. He had a natural patience and a keen eye for detail, always striving to keep things neat and organized. He loved spending time with both the younger and older generations, making a difference in the lives of those around him.

Harold was one of 14 children and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Minnie Scott. He is survived by his siblings, David Scott of New York City, Charles Scott of Yellow Springs, Ohio, Wilfred Scott (Hattie) of New York City and Barbara Fulmore of Kingstree, South Carolina.
He leaves behind: three sons who will cherish his memory, Tyrone (Donna), Derek (Cassandra) and Tylan; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Ultimate Care and Hospice of New York for their professionalism, compassion and support throughout Harold's health journey. A special thank you to Al, Enoch (Yanique) Asare, Billy Benson and his caregivers from Ultimate Care - Khady, Woodsie and Africka who treated him like a father. Family members would also like to express their appreciation to Maggie, whose care allowed Harold to remain comfortable at home. The family is deeply grateful for the many calls, visits, cards and prayers from friends and loved ones during this time.

Harold, "Scotty", will be remembered for his unwavering faith in Jehovah, love for his family, and generosity toward others. His sense of humor, warm spirit, and willingness to help, left a lasting impression on all who knew him. While he will be greatly missed, his kindness and faith will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
