Life Reflections

Ellyn Ann Morris Alston was born on July 30, 1949, in Trio, South Carolina, to the late Joe and Lucille Morris.  She was the 4th out of 10 children. Their foundation of love and resilience shaped Ellyn into the remarkable woman she became.

Ellyn was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated with the Class of 1967 from Blakely High School, where she was a proud member of the "Fabulous 5." She later attended college, earning academic credit in the field of education, reflecting her lifelong commitment to learning and serving others.

Ellyn was united in holy matrimony to the late SSG Calvin Alston. This union of 36 years was blessed with four children - Two sons: Calvin Shuron Alston of Andrews, SC; Shermaine S. Alston (Sheila) of Andrews, SC. Two daughters: Sharesa J Alston of Decatur, GA and Shanquila N. Alston of Andrews, SC. In addition, they were blessed to have Jada N. Jackson who spent countless hours with the family.  Ellyn is the Grandmother "Grannie" to Najawah, Ny'Quanda, Sheldon, Nyzier, Nyziah, Xavier, Trenton, Shernique, and Nyla.

Upon her marriage, Ellyn joined Canaan A.M.E. Church, where she faithfully served the Lord and her church family with unwavering dedication for many years. A devoted servant at heart, she willingly accepted every opportunity to minister wherever she was needed. Her commitment to the work of the church was evident through her service as the founder and director of the Gospel Choir, Church Secretary, Sunday School teacher, member of the Scott-Fulmore Missionary Society, Stewardess Board, Church School Superintendent, former Chief Financial Officer  and former Steward Pro Tem. Through her leadership and compassion, Ellyn inspired generations, nurturing both the spiritual growth of others and the fellowship of the church. Her life reflected a true spirit of servanthood, and her legacy of faithful service will continue to bless all who knew her.

Ellyn was employed by the Williamsburg County School System, where she began her career as a classroom assistant, serving elementary school students with patience, compassion, and dedication. She later advanced to serve as the Parent Liaison through the Parenting Center, where she became a bridge between parents, students, and teachers. In this role, Ellyn welcomed families with warmth and understanding, connected them with valuable educational resources, and empowered parents to take an active role in their children's academic success and school engagement. Her unwavering commitment positively impacted countless students and families throughout the community.

Ellyn, affectionately, called "Nan" was the Queen of Seaboard Road! She was known for her impeccable fashionable suits and hats or fascinators! Her favorite colors were Red and Purple. Ellyn was also a creative poet and would create apersonalized poem on short notice. She has a collection of beautiful poems.

,She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers, Larry and Juluis. She leaves to cherish her life and legacy, her beloved children: Calvin Shuron, Sharesa, Shanquila, and Shermaine (Sheila); her adored grands - Najawah, Ny'Quanda, Sheldon, Nyzier, Nyziah, Xavier, Trenton, Shernique, and Nyla. Her siblings: Daniel (Bert), Veronica, Sarah, Barbara, Ruther, Marilyn and Claude; her goddaughter, Myasha J. Martin and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Ellyn was dearly loved and will be missed by her family, friends and far and near.
