With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of Ellen Lee McKnight, 78, of Charlotte, NC, formerly of Kingstree, SC, wife of Lavern McKnight, who passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

Mrs. Ellen Lee McKnight was born July 24, 1948, in Florence County, South Carolina to the late Reverend William James Nowlin, Sr. and the late Ruebell Frierson Nowlin.

Life Reflections

Ellen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and trusted source of guidance for many. She was the person people turned to, not just for advice, but for clarity, comfort, and truth. Her gift for listening with depth and responding with calm thoughtful intention, made her a steady, reassuring presence in the lives of those who knew her.

Family was the center of Ellen's life. She poured her love into her grandchildren, her grandson, Noah Brown, and into her nephew Khiryn Nance, whom she embraced and cherished as a grandson. She celebrated their achievements, encouraged their growth, and surrounded them with steady, unconditional affection.

Ellen leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband, Jocastra Lavern McKnight of Charlotte, NC; her daughter, Kimyotti McKnight of Saint Louis, MO; her son, Levar McKnight of Charlotte, NC; her grandson, Noah Brown of Saint Louis, MO; and her nephew, Khiryn Nance of Lake City, SC, who held a special place in her heart.

She also leaves behind: her siblings, Evada Hutchins of Allentown, PA, William D. Nowlin of Wilson, NC, Mack W. (Sarah) Nowlin of Winston-Salem, NC, Dan B. (Joeretta) Nowlin of Cades, SC, John M. Nowlin of Cades, SC, and Lorena Nowlin of Cades, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever hold her memory close.

Ellen was preceded in death by: her sisters, Bernice McFadden and Carrie Bell Nowlin, and by her brother, William James Nowlin Jr. Though they are no longer here, their presence remains woven into her story.
