A Life Well Lived

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
— Isaiah 40:31

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the life and legacy of Elizabeth Prioleau Jones, who peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, May 22, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving children.

Elizabeth was born on April 13, 1943, in Pineville, South Carolina, to the late Reverend Ishmael Prioleau, Sr. and Rosella Bennett Prioleau. She was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County, attending J.K. Gourdin Elementary School and graduating from Russellville High School with the Class of 1962. Known for her kind spirit and loving heart, Elizabeth touched countless lives with warmth, wisdom, and compassion.

"Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God."- Romans 12:1

At an early age, Elizabeth accepted Christ and became a faithful member of Day Dawn Baptist Church in Pineville, South Carolina. Her dedication to the church and its ministries remained steadfast throughout her life. She served faithfully as a Sunday School scholar, member of the Gospel Choir, Adult Missionary Auxiliary member, Chairperson of the Pastor's Anniversary Committee, co-founder of the Young Women Christian Organization (YWCO), and member of the Hospitality Committee until declining health prevented her participation.

Elizabeth had a deep love for children and a passion for encouraging young people. Before the establishment of the church's Youth Ministry Department, she served as co-chairperson of the annual Children's Day Program and the Antioch Baptist Association Oratorical Contest. Her nurturing spirit and encouraging words left lasting impressions on generations of youth.

Elizabeth found joy in reading the Bible, playing basketball, and participating in track and field. She often shared her dream of having a track and field team at Russellville High School and proudly declared that she believed she could outrun Wilma Rudolph.

"We love because He first loved us." - 1 John 4:19

On December 30, 1970, Elizabeth united in holy matrimony with Reverend Cornett Janus Jones. Their union was blessed with two devoted children, Jana'h and Corwin, whom she loved dearly and raised with faith, strength, and unwavering devotion. Her children in return cared for and loved her immensely everyday of her life.

"Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." - Ecclesiastes 9:10

Elizabeth dedicated more than forty-three years of faithful service to the Clemson Cooperative Extension Service, where she worked as secretary and agent supporting Berkeley County's 4-H Program. Beginning her career shortly after high school under the supervision of Mr. Rosco Bacote, she became known for her diligence, professionalism, and commitment to serving others. Because of her lauded service, she was the recipient of the South Carolina  Association of Extension 4-H Award.

"God's grace is sufficient, even in weakness and illness." - 2 Corinthians 12:9

Though she endured years of illness, Elizabeth remained strong in faith. During her time of declining health, her devoted children, Jana'h and Corwin, lovingly and tirelessly cared for her with extraordinary compassion and dedication.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants." - Psalm 116:15

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Reverend Ishmael Prioleau, Sr. and Rosella Bennett Prioleau; her husband, Reverend Cornett Janus Jones; her sister, Lucretia P. Gadsden; her brother, Alphonza Prioleau and her nephew/brother, Leonard Lanier, Sr.
