Life Reflections

Mrs. Elaine Evelyn Mathis, A/K/A, Nana, was the youngest of two girls by the late Jonny Manning and Otis Manning. She was born November 5, 1934 in Jamaica Queens, New York.

Elaine received her education from John Adams High School in Queens, New York. After high school, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland and became a nurse. She worked at Saint Joseph Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and she retired in 1990.

Elaine met the love of her life, Stacy and they wed on November 13, 1957. This union was blessed with four daughters.

Elaine was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jamestown, South Carolina. Nana enjoyed going fishing, crabbing and she loved boats. She also enjoyed playing card games. Nana loved people and she enjoyed cooking. Her love for  people is why she chose to be a nurse. She never met a stranger. Nana loved music, singing and dancing.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Stacy Mathis and a daughter, Valerie Bell.

Loved ones left to cherish her memories: three daughters, Terry Hill (Larry) of Charleston, SC, Gail Brown (Steve) of Charlotte, NC and Stacey Chandler (Derrick) of Andrews, SC; her grandchildren, Joshua Taylor, Lauren Hill, Kayla Hill, Steven Brown, Jr., Philip Brown, Maurice "Marty" McFarlin, Hector Lopez, Veronica Bell, De'yettia Chandler, Kristina Chandler, Katlyn Chandler and Pilar Chandler; her special children, Debbie Rehan, Kim Keith and Ronnie Hamilton; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
