Reflections
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4: 7-8
Mr. Eddie Gene Cooper was born April 25, 1950, in Williamsburg County. He was the SIXTH of six children born to the late Jim and Louise Pressley Cooper. He was known to family and dear friends as "Gene". When you call him Gene, he would just chuckle.
Eddie transitioned from labor to reward on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Georgetown, South Carolina. Eddie was the last living child of his parents. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Willa, John S, James Marion, Charles, & Ethel.
Eddie completed his high school education at Battery Park High School in 1968. He joined Friendship United Methodist Church at an early age and accepted Christ as his personal Savior. Eddie loved his church and loved singing on the choirs; The Male Choir and The FUMC Choir. He enjoyed praising God through his music ministry. Two of his special songs were "Come Along and Ride This Train" and "Tell Me What More Can I Do". Morning Star Baptist Church was his second home church where he worshipped frequently.
Eddie's employment journey took him through several companies in Williamsburg County such as Wellman Industries, Blakely Trucking, Atlantic Foods & Oneita Knitting Mills. Truck driving and cooking for his family and community was his passion. Eddie didn't mind lending a helping hand to others. He enjoyed life; you could see his contagious smile and hear his loud laughter from far away.
Eddie was united in Holy Matrimony on November 4, 1971, to Magdalena Rich. This union was blessed with three children.
Eddie loving memories will be remembered and cherished by: his loving and devoted wife, Magdalena Rich Cooper; two sons, Sherman (Maydean) Cooper and Charmon Cooper both of Nesmith SC; one daughter, Anjanette Cooper, Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Horace (Irene) Rich of Nesmith, SC and Eugene Washington Kingstree, SC; four sisters-in-law, Edna Cooper and Ricklyn McCray both of Nesmith, SC, Annie Cooper of Hemingway, SC and Sadie Cooper of Bronx, NY; two aunts, Rachel Harriston and Celia Pressley both of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family & friends.
