Life Reflection of the Life of

Easton Jones

April 9, 1944 - August 6, 2024

~I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.~   2 Timothy 4:7

Easton Jones, affectionately known as "Big E," was born on April 9, 1944 in Nesmith, South Carolina, as the youngest of ten children to his loving parents, the late Jim Jones, Jr. and Minnie Jones. On August 6, 2024, Easton entered into eternal rest.

Easton's life, from early childhood, was characterized by his infectious joy and unwavering faith in Christ. He received Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Friendship United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully in various ministries, including the United Methodist Men, the Nominating Committee and Sunday Schoo. Easton remained active in his faith throughout his entire life.

Educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County, Easton attended Brown Elementary School and graduated from Battery Park high School in 1961. After high school, he moved to Prince George's County, Maryland, where he worked at Safeway Bakery for over 40 years until his retirement.

On June 12, 1982, Easton married his beloved wife, Pauline Payden, with whom he shared a loving and devoted partnership.

Easton was deeply involved in his community, particularly with the Battery Park Alumni Association, of which he was a founding member. He served as Chaplain and remained an active participant for as long as he was able. Easton's love for Battery Park was profound; he encouraged his classmates' participation with his enthusiastic rendition of the Alma Mater, "Battery, Dear Ole Battery, We love You So," and often shared his trademark phrase, "I am too blessed to be stressed."

Easton also had a passion for the AA Organization, where he became an inspiring spokesperson, sharing the principles of AA with a unique blend of humor and wisdom in meetings around the world. He was a member of the NAACP. During the holidays he brought joy to the community as Santa Claus.

Family was everything to Easton. He cherished attending Family Reunions and never missed a celebration. Easton was also known for his style of singing, dancing and would always show off those great dance moves. He shared a special bond with his family and was preceded in death by: his parents; his sons, Daryl, Bink and Tony; his sister, Pearlie Mae; and his brothers, Chappell, Bishop, Robert and Louis Jones; one sister-in-law, Thomasine; six brothers-in-law, Wilie Kearson, Sam McCrea, Thomas Proctor, George Payden, Earnest & Richard Layton.

Easton leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for his loving wife, Pauline Jones; adopted children, Charlotte Smith, Malik Morris both of Nesmith, SC, Big Mike, Dee Dee of Washington, DC; ten grandchildren, Brittany, Antiena, Bianca and Michael all of Washington, DC, Antwan Burroughs of Kingstree, SC, Quansha Wilson of Nesmith, SC, Frank Wilson of Conway, SC, Consuella Smith of Nesmith, SC, Cornelius Wilson of Conway, SC, and Courtney Smith of Savannah, GA; four great grandchildren, Amelia, Ahmad, Zahir and Marzi all of Washington, DC; three sisters, Sarah Jane McCrea of Philadelphia, PA, Alice Proctor of Oxon Hill, MD and Jenny Kearson of Houston, TX; one brother, Jim (Phostenia) Jones of Nesmith, SC; eight sisters-in-law, Easter Jones of Nesmith, SC, Edna Jones and Eva Jones both of Philadelphia, PA, Virginia Ann, Joann Payden of Washington, DC, Magaline (Lou) of Florence, SC, Deborah of North Carolina; one brother-in-law, Willie Earl (Melissa) of Florence, SC; special cousin, Rhonda Farmer of Columbia, SC; one goddaughter, Tiffany Hargrave of Dayton, Ohio.
