Life Reflections
"To everything there, is a season, and a time to purpose under the heaven; a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance. Ecclesiastes 3:1-4
Derrick Randall Witherspoon peacefully took God's hand and gave his spirit to our Father on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carlina. He was born June 25, 1969 in Kingstree, South Carolina to Agnes V. Thomas Witherspoon and the late Randolph "Big Daddy" Witherspoon.
Derrick received Christ at an early age. He attended St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Kingstree, South Carolina keeping the love of Christ in his spirit. He became a member of Jones Memorial Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he mowed the grass for several years. One of his favorite sayings was, I"m a child of God too."
Derrick was educated in the public school system of Williamsburg County, where his athletic skills and passion for football excel. Graduating from Kingstree Senior High School in 1987. After graduation, Derrick worked diverse jobs, if you knew Derrick, he was a true 'jack of all trades', with a remarkable passion for carpentry. Derrick found joy with driving with true enthusiasm. Following that dream, in 2010, Derrick received his Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at All State Career Institute. Upon completion of training, he was employed with SWIFT Trucking, becoming a proud long distance truck driver. Derrick explored the world in his truck sharing stories with all who listen, loving every mile he drove.
Derrick met and married the love of his life, Sarina Howard, and they were united in Holy Matrimony on June 6, 2009 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Derrick was and still is her quarterback, whom he shared unconditional love that was unbreakable, a bond that has woven them together by love, uniquely.
Derrick, affectionately known to family and friends as "Frog" and "Cold B", was a dedicated family man, who enjoyed cooking. You already know, don't touch his grill. One of his favorite dishes was rice, it didn't matter what kind, long as it was rice, he wanted it. Saturdays you could count on him being at his grandson, Mason football games cheering him on. He was a loving husband to Sarina, having their fondest memories throwing BBQ's for family and friends. Frog was always straightforward with you. Sundays was game day with the guys on 33rd Street (Auntie's House). Cold B was surely the "LIFE OF THE PARTY". He enjoyed talking to Julius on the phone every day, while sitting on the swing having coffee. A proud father to his children, a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren. Each holding a special place in his heart. Derrick was truly adored b family and friends. His steadfast commitment to family has left an enduring imprint, and his memory will live always with those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In the hearts of those who cherished him deeply. Derrick is held fondly by his wife of 15 years, Sarina Howard Witherspoon; devoted mother, Agnes V. Thomas Witherspoon; his children, Alexis, Derries (Tara), Dalaious, Shanikwa, Desiree and Shaniya; 9 grandchildren, Jayden, Mason, Cameron, Kaleb, Mark, Xailani, Million, Milani and Kashtyn; brothers, Regynold and Charles; sisters, Eva (Joe), Deatrice (Phil) and Debbie; brothers-in-law, Titus and Latrell; sisters-in-law, Jarmilla (Allen), Essences and Kareema; special aunt, Sarah; along with a host of additional aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.
