On December 26, 2025, God saw fit to call home one of his earthly servants, Mrs. Delores Redden Walker. Mrs. Delores Redden Walker was born October 12, 1940, in Kingstree, South Carolina to the late Junious Redden and the late Sophia Brown Redden.
"Lo" as she was affectionately called, was a faithful and diligent member of Melina Presbyterian Church after relocating to South Carolina from Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in New Haven, Connecticut. She was a member of the Senior Choir and served as secretary for the Senior Choir for many years. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women, the Deacon Board, a member of St. Mary Chapter #156 OES, as well as the Black Nurses Association of Connecticut.
Mrs. Delores Redden Walker graduated from the Walker-Gamble High School in 1957, she then moved to New Haven, Connecticut in search of a better life. She worked for seven years at the V.A. Hospital in West Haven, Connecticut as a Nursing Assistant. In 1964 she moved to New York and attended Clara Barton Vocational School, where she graduated as a Licensed Practitioner. Delores loved what she did, helping sick people, so she decided to return to school. She attended Kingsborough College and graduated with a degree as a Registered Nurse, she worked for many years as a charge nurse and retired as a Nursing Supervisor in 1999 from St. Regis Health Care, New Haven Connecticut after which she returned back to South Carolina.
On April 28, 1958, Delores was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, the late Edward Fields Walker. They were blessed with one son, Tyrone Edward Walker.
Delores leaves to cherish her loving memories: her son, Tyrone E. (Laura) Walker; one granddaughter, Rickia (Kyrie) Turner; one great-grandson, Kyrie Jamal Pearson of the home; one great-granddaughter, Paris Pearson; three sisters, Betty Hines, Lila Hammett and Gwendolyn Rush; one brother, Charlie (Mary) Redden; three goddaughters, Marina Gethers of Baltimore, MD, Latasha (Edward) Jackson of Atlanta, GA and Marchell Hines; a longtime friend of over sixty years, Flora Gethers of Moncks Corner, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
