David Winn,
Jr.
May 25, 1944 — Aug 11, 2024
Sumter
With deepest sorrow we at Henryhand Funeral Home regret to announce the passing of David Winn, Jr., 80, of Sumter, SC, who passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
Life Reflections
David Winn, Jr., son of the late David and Early Mae Winn, was born May 25, 1944, and departed this earthly life on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
David Winn, Jr. was better known by his nickname, "Cannonball" due to his brash, strong-minded personality.
He was educated in Sumter County, South Carolina and learned several trades within the industrial manufacturing and construction field.
One of David's proudest achievements was participating in several additions to Tuomey Hospital, known today as Tuomey Prisma Health. With his knowledge in the use of construction power tools, combined with his interpretation of blueprint reading, he worked several years in the construction field. Due to his reliability, he worked for several private contractors after the completion of Tuomey, until his health began to steadily decline.
Despite dealing with the challenges of decreased mobility due to old age and sickness, he maintained a positive outlook, determined to make the most out of the remaining years of his life.
Although he was never much for religion, in his early years, in his later years it became evident that he made peace with God.
David was preceded in death by: his common law wife, Fannie Mae Prescott.
Those left to cherish his memories are: three children, Melissa R. Wilson of Columbia, SC, Joseph Prescott and Sabrina Prescott both of Sumter, SC; grandchildren, MyTia K. Robinson, Miracle Wilson and Essence Wilson; four brothers, Frank, Henry, George, and Harry Winn all of Sumter, SC; three sisters, Francis Levine, Liza Jefferson and Laura Mae Sharpe all of Sumter, SC; a son-in-law, Brian Wilson; a sister-in-law, Louise Winn; nieces and nephews, Reverend Eugene Winn, Corey Pringle, Latasha Pringle, Angel Winn, Angela Winn, Ricky Winn, Todd Winn, Loretta Winn, Shaquetta, Shannetta, Jeanette, Jimmy, Floyd and Edward; along with a host of other family and friends.
All arrangements and professional services have been entrusted to Henryhand Funeral Home of Kingstree, SC. 843-354-2292.
