The Life of David D. Singletary
David Devine Singletary Sr. was a man of a few words but a heart full of laughter, joy and peaceful spirit. Born and raised in Washington, DC, he was known in his younger years for his quick wit, clever charm, and groovy sense of style. He had a deep love for sports, especially basketball, and found comfort and happiness in music, often listening to the smooth sounds of The O'Jays and The Temptations.
At the age of 21, David married Maria and together they built a family of five children, Itisha, Melissa, Ronita, David and Dontee Singletary. Later he made South Carolina his home, where his life continued to unfold with both challenges and blessings.
Though his journey was not without imperfections, David's foundation was rooted in faith. Under the Christian leadership of his parents, the late Charlie and Ruth Singletary, he learned to trust in the Lord and he carried that faith through his life. While his early years may have held missed moments in fatherhood, he embraced a beautiful second chance through his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Ruth Singletary; one daughter, Melissa Singletary; and two sisters, Brenda Robinson and Debbie Graham.
David leaves to cherish his lasting memories: his wife, Maria Singletary of Washington, DC; three daughters, Itisha Singletary of Kingstree, SC, Ronita Singletary of Washington, DC, Dontee Singletary of Kingstree, SC; one son, David Singletary of Washington, DC; two grandsons, Eric Dozier Jr of Kingstree, SC and Darrius Singletary of Kingstree, SC; three granddaughters, Jada Gorham, Emani Dozier and Julie Ann Singletary; his four great-grandchildren, Yameir Gorham, JyAunnia Singletary, Kairo Brockington, Khloe Brockington and E'sauun Dozier; one sister, Ruddie Singletary of Kingstree, SC and the late Debbie Graham of Washington, DC, the late Brenda Robinson; two brothers, Teddy and Mark Robinson of Washington, DC; one aunt, Eula Wallace of Washington, DC; one son-in-law, Eric Dozier of Columbia, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
David's legacy is one of growth, love and quiet strength; a reminder that it is never too late for grace, redemption and deep enduring joy.
The family is receiving friends at 320 Rae Street, Lake City, SC.
